I'm a long-time Freelancer here in Upwork and am posting for the first time just to share my frustration with the system.
A brief background, my agency has multiple contracts here in Upwork and does thousands of dollars of business on the platform. Upwork is excellent at finding clients for my freelancers, and I've made good money here.
With that said, the customer support especially the mediation team has been a pain to work with ever since. With the high number of contracts and clients, I engage with disputes are inevitable. This is the third time this has happened to me and every time the Mediation Team always decides to suspend my account.
This time the dispute is for an amount of $70, my agency currently has over $1,600 in available funds and another $2,000 coming in this week. But because one of my freelancers has a dispute everyone in the agency cannot withraw funds.
Instead of putting on hold the disputed amount, the Mediation Team arbitrarily decides, hey let's go ahead and put a hold on thousands of dollars of funds just because we can. This is terrible for my business as I have no access to my money and can't pay my employees, but I guess that's my problem and not really Upwork's.
I'm just ranting here but I'm seriously considering leaving the platform just because of how awful the support team is especially when they deal with agencies.
