"So, Brian, what would you recommend that Upwork do to stop losing money?"

 

1) Stop holding the payments for 3 weeks for no good reason before releasing it.

2) Stop weekly auto billing and let the client pay when they are happy with the work, and the money goes straight to the freelancer. (It's called flexiblity and it does wonders for projects)

3) Bring back ExpertRating skills tests to ensure qualified candidates. Make freelancers pass at least one test in their field before working.

4) Stop using Entity Framework for their db calls and use stored procs. This will reduce their server processing by about 100000%.

5) Fire all the excess employees (like these "Talent Specialists") who are not really necessary and don't really serve much of a purpose.

6) Move office from California to Pittsburgh. Sell the fountain in the office instead of bringing it to Pitt.

7) Ensure that the best profiles will be visible, earning or not.

8) Stop adding more reinventions of the wheel like video calling and consider cutting the existing ones.

9) Stop implementing random policy changes on a whim. Instead do actual market reasearch before making big decisions and try to get feedback from both clients and freelancers first.

10) About a billion other things.

Hi.

I am running out of connects and was wondering exactly when you think the new connect system will implement for ME. (I created my account three days ago).

 

My wondering is, if I should buy Freelancer Plus membership now and buy connects 1dollar/connect or wait until they are 0.15 each.

Unfortunately, we can't share a specific date when your account is moved to paid connects but you will receive an email reminder about one week before this takes place. You’ll also see a pop-up notification in your Upwork account once your account is moved to paid Connects.

Oh ok. I was worried there was something wrong with my account because it said that the new system started in the end of April, I created my account three days ago, which is may, therefore it would have been implemented for me but it is not.

ONE MORE QUESTION: Just to clarify, I will not need the premium version of Upwork to buy connects right?

No, Zakarias, you will not need to upgrade to Freelancer Plus Membership to purchase connects.

Hello,

 

I received the email last week and my account was supposed to move to paid connects on May 20, 2019. Today is May 21, 2019 (as per GMT timezone). Still, no pop-up notification on the migration. I wonder if it is getting delayed further?

Is there anyone whose account is moved to the new connects system?

Hi Pothi, 

I would like to clarify that the email you received was only a reminder about the launch date of the paid connects. We anticipate paid Connects will be in place for all freelancers by the end of June.  Because this is a big change, we’re rolling it out over several weeks to help ensure a smooth transition. You’ll also see a pop-up notification in your Upwork account once your account is moved to paid Connects.

Recently Upwork made changes to the connects pricing and membership plans. They sent emails to everyone, and posted blog posts, like they are actually reducing the price of using the service.

 

But effectively they are charghing almost double of previous system. Now my Agency plus plan's effective price is $32 per month instead of $20 per month with 80 connects.

 

And more than that they have increased the number of connects required per project. Hence comsuming more connects. This is very bad they were already charging so much money in project fee, membership fee and connects. Now it is reached new high.

 

This is making  it difficult to use Upwork.
