Over the past few months, many of you have helped us test and refine our newest Upwork offering: Project Catalog.

Through your contributions, feedback, and support, we’re thrilled to announce that Project Catalog is now officially live for the entire Upwork community—talent and clients alike.

If you’re not familiar with Project Catalog (or just want a refresher), here’s a quick introduction:

Project Catalog is where the work you love finds you. Build and sell your own project offerings based on the type of work you want more of. Each project will be listed on Project Catalog, ready for clients to purchase for a fixed price in just a few clicks. Once a client purchases, they’ll fill out any requirements you’ve requested, and you’ll be set to get to work.

It’s an easy way to get more eyes on your offering and land new projects quickly—all while putting you in the driver’s seat. That means you and your clients can get started right away, and with confidence.

Check out this video to learn how clients will discover and purchase your projects.

Stay tuned for more exciting rollouts

Project Catalog is just the beginning of a series of exciting new ways to land clients on Upwork, adding to Talent Marketplace, the current platform you already know and love.

But no matter how you choose to use Upwork to grow your independent work, know that we’re dedicated to helping you build the strong and profitable relationships that are the foundation of a growing business.

We want to thank you for your hard work and the contributions you make to creating a thriving community on Upwork.

Happy New Year—may it be your most rewarding one yet!

Hi Abinadab,

Star rating shown on the project tile is an average of star ratings the freelancer received on all their contracts since they registered on Upwork, while JSS is calculated over 24-, 12- and 6- months and also takes other factors into consideration such as private feedback, long-term relationships, jobs with higher earnings, etc. Currently, the star-rating is shown on the project tile while the Project Details page will include both, the star rating and JSS. That said, we may revisit this as we further improve this feature.

How many projects can create for every Freelancer minimum or maximum?

Hi Sayedul,

Thanks for your question. You can add up to seven projects.

Thanks for updating regarding Project Catalog. I think this catalog creates a race of order to whom which on the top line. In fact, it's a Fiverr matrix and it is not in favor of sellers who are not at the top.

I came here to inquire about the stars as well:

The star rating isn't visible on our stats pages anymore and hasn't been for a long time. We all know why it had to go... it wasn't a good enough measure of our track record and could be manipulated. So instead we got the JSS.

And now the stars are back in the limelight? Front and center? A metric I cannot even check on my own profile? Or will it make a comeback on our profile pages as well? And sit there next to the JSS possibly w/o an explanation just like the magic blue bar?

I share a lot of the concerns I've seen others posting on here regarding the catalogue approach, but I've decided to give it a try and have submitted two projects for approval.  I've run into one major stumbling block.  When I set up the 3 tiers for my project, the options include don't allow me to adequately describe the differences between the tiers.  It would be much better, in my opinion, if there was a least one customizable description field, or one open text variable.

I'll use an example to be clearer.  I develop Excel based macros.  I do have several common types of projects where I could see this being a useful way to connect with clients.
Let's say I want to create a catalogue project for automated updating of Powerpoint presentations from Excel data.  The predefinied options on the tiers let me set either # of Macros, or # of Buttons/Forms.
Cients would have no idea how many "macros" their project would use.  If I had a custom text field option, I would set it as :
# Of Different Source Files:
# Of Powerpoint elements Updated
Alternatively, if there was a blank text description for each tier, I could describe differences in general.  I could set one to "PC" and one to "Mac" and one for "PC/Mac" as on some projects the code can be more complex on Macs. Its not always Starter/Standard/Advanced , sometimes its A/B/C...
I'm sure upwork is trying to standardize the approach as much as possible to streamline the approval process.  I've seen moderator responses stating that freelancers can set whatever terms and details so we can control the process, but without being able to customize the tiers at all, its very difficult.
(And, of course, if I'm mistaken, and there is a way to customize the tiers, please let me know)
Thanks

I created my first project and having issues with the rating.
All my visible ratings are 5, but my account average is 4.87.

The star average prominently featured in the Project Catalog has recently been confirmed by Valeria as a lifetime average, despite the fact that this is utterly inconsistent with both the general rule for displaying our metrics to buyers and the general deprecation of star ratings. It’s not as if we can expect Upwork to act with any consistency, or even in its own self-interest.
