Hi Upwork,

I respected your Job Success Score but this is affecting me too much that I can’t get new clients anymore. Without it I easily got three to four clients a day but now I'm applying for almost couple of months and always turn 0% hire. Maybe they don't trust me because they are only seeing 80% + of JSS which is out of my control.

I'm performing well and very active here on Upwork. I don't know why my JSS scores are getting lower and lower.

As you can see on my profile that all of my clients are very happy, satisfied with my work, they gave good feedbacks and a perfect scores.

It is not my fault why many of my contracts are paused or no activity for 30 days or they are not even ending the contracts. It's client's choice, because some of them they don't have projects anymore for the meantime but they come back when they have a new jobs for me. Also, even if I had 0 hours for a months I am very busy everyday with long time clients with a lot of works on fixed priced terms.

I'm following all your rules and tips on hiring hub and based on my stats I'm am very qualified to get that top rated status again. I had all 100% successful contract outcomes and no negative contract outcomes. I’m also very active answering all clients messages, interviews and even declining jobs. Also, I have an example: my classmate was also here (I can give you the name if needed) he has no activity for a long time, his work history, feedbacks and earnings are stagnant but his profile is 100% Job success. How come?

I want to work hard here for my family and also for your team. Please give me some opportunity to do it. I don’t know what’s wrong? I want many new clients, my earnings now are not enough to feed my family even if I'm working here almost 16-24 hours a day because of low rates clients for now. I want to help to the success of the team and be a long term freelancers here. Thank you so much.

Respectfully yours,

Mark

The Job Success Score is one of the most absurd things i have seen for a while, it is affecting negatively my ability to work with new clients, it imposes me a way of working that is not mine and it is totally unfair in relation to the good feedbacks i earned so far.

My feedback is 4.8 out of 5 and most clients are happy with what i do for them, nevertheless i have a low Success Score because i do not have long lasting contracts.

I do not care in this moment to have long lasting contracts, i like to work on small projects with different clients. Does this mean i am a bad worker? Really Upwork?

Hi, I have a lot of clients who are unresponsive even though I have asked them to end my successfully completed contracts, so I need to find out, which of the following options will lower my job success score more?

- If I close those contracts and don't get any feedback in return

- If I leave those contracts open permanently

I greatly appreciate any specific answers and clarification about this subject. I feel as though I am "between a rock and a hard place" when I am subjected to unresponsive clients, as my job success score will be penalized either way.

What do you recommend in this situation?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi Marissa,

If you asked the client to close the contract but didn't hear back, I would suggest going ahead and closing the contract yourself. A few jobs without feedback will not affect your Job Success score negatively unless they are the majority of your Work History. Only if there is a pattern of jobs without feedback it will be reflected in the score.

I hope it helps.

Hello Valeria,

Thanks for the info. few of my clients event didnt came back after they got their work. I have requested to do the contract close so that they can atleast put some feedback(negative or positive, whatever).

I always interact with clients instantly. I always take the project even after I supplied them a trial to make satisfied and so on, there cant be no unexpected closing of contracts who can make a negative impact.

Now I dont understand what I can do more to increase my JSS.. Honestly , Its confusing about your calculations of JSS ,where most I feel guessing beaviour of clients instead of firm reasons.

Thats not so fair and its really affecting about my capability to convince new clients.

Please think something helpful to freelancers.

Thanks..

This is all great, and having a score would also be great. But, how the heck do you even get started? I've been a freelancer with a great reputation since 2011, now coming to Upwork I feel like a Junior again - I understand the need to build a reputation in a different environment, but it's like pulling teeth.

I'm applying for jobs, I know how to apply for jobs, but get no response what so ever. I'd like to get some responses back from project requests to at least say no and give a reason why. I feel as though I'm fumbling around in the dark a bit.

What's the point in a site dedicated to getting great freelancers working with great clients if as a freelancer we're not treated as well as we could be. It feels faceless and empty - I'd like to use your services, but my soul is dead.

Anyone feel the same or have any useful hints or tips of what I can do to start getting work to build my rep?

Thanks

Nik
