UPDATE: This is already live. You’ll see these free Connects added to your account at the start of your next billing cycle. You can find this date on your Memberships and Connects page under User Settings.

In December, we’re upgrading Connects to provide you free monthly Connects and bonus Connects for interviews you win. You’re doing amazing things on Upwork, and more Connects means more chances to do the work you love.

We’ve seen a huge surge in client activity, and our work marketplace is full of opportunities for all the incredible talent on our platform. We can’t wait to watch you use these Connects to win your share of these opportunities, form stronger relationships with clients, and grow your career on Upwork.

We introduced paid Connects to keep spam from crowding out your proposals and help you win the jobs you want. But we want to ensure connecting with clients is exciting and affordable, so we’re changing our program to provide you with the Connects you need to build deeper relationships and unlock the best opportunities.

Here’s exactly what you can expect:

Freelancer Basic Plan

Receive 10 free Connects per month (according to billing cycle)

Freelancer Plus Plan

Receive 80 Connects per month (70 + 10 free Connects)

(according to billing cycle)

Connects Rollover Limits

The Basic and Plus roll over limit is now 200 Connects

Interview Requests

Freelancers receive free Connects (the number may vary) when they win an interview with an established client on Upwork**

In December, you’ll see these free Connects added to your account at the start of your next billing cycle. You can find this date on your Memberships and Connects page under User Settings. You’ll also receive an email when your Connects are available for use.

These changes will create more opportunities for everyone in our community, and we’re continuing to explore other ways to show our appreciation for everything you do. Your success is our success, and we’re proud to provide a home where you can do the work you love, form lucrative relationships, and build an amazing independent business.

Learn more about how Connects work here

Update 7/23/2021: Note that when Connects are awarded for interview requests this will show up as two transactions in the Connects History. There is no change to how these are awarded, this is simply done for accounting purposes.

Pretesth B. I am so with you on this!!!

And hey I just got a great idea!

Let's start a new website for only newbie freelancers: NoobLance

That's where everyone has an equally fair chance of realizing they should not do freelance because of poor communication skills, non-existing business skills, missing expectation management, or just not having any execution skills worth a dime, all offered completely free! Unlimited proposals, no identity verification, no nothing. Just a jungle.

Also, we could advertise this NoobLance worldwide for having the cheapest freelancers with a disclaimer saying we don't guarantee any work done properly at all but you still have to opportunity to waste your money as much as you want. But we promise that in a haystack of 1,000 proposals you can just pick randomly, since you get the same "quality work" anyway from any of the noob lancers. 😉

Shall we? I'll do the coding! For free!!! 🤣

Hi Pretesh B,
Contracters come here looking for good, cheap jobs, and complain that to get them you have to do your homework in applying selection criteria. The freelancer pays 20% plus the credits he buys and the contracter 3% and complains about spam!
Protectionist measures create dinosaurs that are doomed to extinction.
-I would like to be able to apply something similar to "Google", type 1cts for each email exchanged, to see what your path of success would be.

-Let natural selection do its job.

Exchange of ideas and ways of seeing, generate progress, let people be aware!

Hold on a sec...
What the heck is "contracteres" and who the heck is inventing that word???

Jose, I'd be very interested in hearing more about your experiences.

Mine are completely different! I've found insanely good people on this platform which is the only reason why I haven't dumped it earlier. Fantastic folks looking for the best guys possible, and don't mind paying top dollars for the right competence.

Freelancers sell their time at the price they want. Nobody else decides that than the person him/herself.

Going for the low-balling business is everyone's own decision. Implications will follow of course.

Hi that was just a word Mr. Jose M. used for the person who is posting job and refered as (the money Man) so just used his word to give a thought about it

Don't take it seriously

Fatma, sure wouldn't it nice if you could get unlimited Connects?

Why don't you ask Upwork to do the work also? 😉 Then you just sit back and wait for the money to land at your account.

Wouldn't that be sooo nice!?! 😁

Hey Asrafuzzaman, I think it might help if you asked yourself why your proposals penetrate so poorly.

Needing a lot of Connects tells me just two things.

1. Who you should send proposals might not yet be crystal clear. Define your ideal client and approach those only.

2. The proposals don't have a clear value proposition. Why you and not the next guy? What is it that you have to offer that others don't? If the answer is "well, nothing much, really" you're anyway going to be an ex-freelancer sooner a later. Doesn't depend on what platform try it on.

Seamul, would you also like the platform to do the work for you for free so you could sit back and enjoy the free money? 😉

It takes an investment to build a business. Even freelance business.

Most starting freelancers don't get this yet and therefore never pay for anything that could help them getting the business running nicely. And then wonder why there's no business... 🙄

To tell you the truth, I was like that when I started. Then, I started paying to grow my business. The best move of my life! 🤑

Shahid,

Would you like the platform also to do the work for you?

More relaxing that way. Just wait for free money. 😉

The cost of Connects does not really matter.

I'd set it somewhere around $2-5 per piece too keep all the hobbyist away if it was up to me. And 0 coming for free.

Quite fair that way. 😉
