New Messages Lite on Freelancer App

Lena E Moderator Member Since: Apr 7, 2015

Today we will begin to roll out Messages Lite, a new, simpler version of Messages that will be part of the Upwork for Freelancers app. Currently, messaging in the Upwork for Freelancers app take time to load and can lag. Messages Lite has much faster app performance, but with limited features. Freelancers will be able to perform basic functions on Messages Lite, including reviewing their contact list, sending and receiving messages, and sending and receiving files.

When this is available, users will see a pop-up in the Upwork App to try Messages Lite.

We understand that speed and accessibility are important to our users and we are working on expanding Messages Lite to incorporate a fuller set of features without compromising its speed. We will inform you of future updates, and hope you enjoy the new Messages Lite. Let us know if you have any questions or feedback!

Thanks for the kudos, Horacio! I'm glad you like Messages Lite!

I merged your post with the original announcement about the feature so we can keep the conversation in the same place.

I switched from original message view to message lite within iOS app. Now, I can not switch back to the original message view because no link appears on the main screen. Any help to switch back.

Hi Amr,

I can confirm there's no longer an option to switch back to the full version of Messages. Could you please share the reasons for not continuing to use Messages Lite? I'd love to get more feedback and forward it to our team.

Thanks for your reply. I miss some tweaks in the lite version. In a room, you have to scroll to the top of the conversation to go to the proposal, while in the original version this was provided as a link at the top. In the original version, it was possible to see when the other side is typing a reply. There is no option to edit a sent message. I think users should have the choice to select whatever version they prefer to use or at least add the missing functions to the light version.
