Upcoming: New Filters in Job Search

Over the next several weeks you may notice changes to Job Search filters during testing to improve search capabilities for talent. Some of these developments include the ability to filter jobs by an hourly rate range and filter for jobs requiring multiple freelancers. These enhancements were created in response to feedback we received from freelance talent on Upwork requesting advanced job search filters.

These are limited tests, so not everyone will see the filters described below at this time when searching for jobs. But stay tuned for broader rollout!

Enhanced Job Search Using Hourly Rate Filters

Currently, Job Search allows filtering by either hourly or fixed-priced job type and users are able to filter fixed-price jobs by their budget. During this test, some freelancers and agencies will be able to filter hourly jobs using more specific rate filters based on criteria selected. This will enable talent to filter by an hourly rate range and find jobs within the hourly rate range set by clients on job posts.

The update will provide three ways to filter jobs:

  • Set a minimum and maximum range to see a list of jobs within that hourly rate range.
  • Enter a minimum hourly rate and view the list of jobs that pay that rate or more.
  • Enter a maximum hourly rate to see jobs that pay that rate or less.

When selecting either “Hourly” or “Fixed-Price” under  Job Type, you can enter or select rate ranges:

You may notice results outside of the rates selected in cases where clients set a range for a job post that falls within the parameters you have chosen. For example, a client may set a range of $30-$40 an hour, which may populate when you filter for an hourly rate of $35 and above, even though the rate the role may pay starts at $30 an hour.

Job Search Filter for Multiple Freelancer Jobs

Currently, when talent scrolls through jobs the only way to identify work requiring multiple freelancers is to look for a text field indicating the number of freelancers needed. We understand that multi-freelancer jobs are highly relevant for agencies as well as freelancers who support teams and we want to ensure these types of jobs can be found more easily. This update will enable talent to specifically filter for multi-freelancer opportunities in a couple of ways.

The ‘Freelancers needed’ search option will provide two ways to filter multi-freelancer jobs:

  • Filter jobs based on ranges of 1, 2-5 and 5+ freelancers via checkboxes.
  • Filter jobs based on any number, single and multiple number of freelancers.

These filters will appear under ‘Freelancers needed’ in the Job Search side-panel:

These updates are not available to all freelancers at this time as we continue to evaluate how to better help talent on Upwork find jobs based on criteria that best suits your needs.*

As always, questions or feedback are welcome! We love to hear from you to help us make your experience even better!

*Update 7/14: Hourly Rate Filter in job search is now available to all talent!
