Reinier and Wendy,

 

As Steve pointed out towards the end of his post work is being done constantly to improve the program. The team is using decline reasons freelancers select, other internal metrics, as well as feedback from the Community and support tickets to improve the quality of invites and coach Talent Specialists. For that reason we need to keep related Community feedback consolidated and will continue merging threads according to our Community Guidelines.

Valeria, makes sense to merge the thread. I just want to emphasize that getting some feedback directly to the talent group is really important. Maybe you could have an ombudsman thread or email box to collect what freelancers consider to be inappropriate referrals. I like getting the referrals. The idea is good, and I expect some flexibility. But if I do supply chain management and dashboarding and I get video production and German translation (real examples) then I hope the TS management would want that feedback to improve processes.

I, for one, sincerely feel that if anyone at U can solve and/or resolve the multiple issues with the TS problem - it is Steve. He has a proven track record of actually understanding the problems we grouse about because:

 

1. He listens and participates in U>FLer forums

2. He is a business person and gets the fact that U. would be an empty shell were it not for both buyers and freelancers.

3. I've seen him in action over the course of eLance's existence and, more recently, Upwork's.  I know for a fact he "puts his money where his mouth is".

 

Valeria, we grouse; grump; complain, and scream about the problems with TS (and other things) for one reason.  We get pooh-hooed and told an issue is either under consideration or has been escalated.  Then - nothing happens. The issues aren't fixed.

 

None of us expect overnight miracles; but placating comments for months on end doesn't come close to fixing them.

 

As I stated at the start of my rant - I do think Steve can correct the TS issue.  When he does, I'm confident those of us who turned it off will gladly turn it back on.

I agree with Wendy, and + many kudos to her. 

 

I know I will accept invitations from the Talent Specialists again if I have at least some assurance that I won't be recieving invites to build or maintain websites, since there is nothing in my profile that even remotely suggests that I know anything about how to make or maintain websites.

I sincerely hope you are right, but his initial non-announcement "Announcement" and subsequent responses give me little hope of that.

 

As many have continued to point out, this is a systemic problem, not an occasional anomaly. I'm not surprised when an algorithm groups graphic and web and software designers all together. I am APPALLED when a human being tasked with actually READING freelancer profiles to match with job posts does so.

Having a feedback form on the same page as the referral - an integral part of it, not requiring leaving the page - would be the only way to get sufficient feedback. No one is going to open the forum, find the thread and write something.  Or compose an e-mail to the ombusdman.

I'd like to know too.  My latest, considered spam at this point, invite was for an entry level job to copyright a disclaimer page in an ebook.  I scratched my head for a while trying to understand how this "talent specialist" could have thought I'd be a "great match" (after I declined) ...it finally dawned on me that I was selected due to the fact that I have "copywriting" as a skill.  **Edited for Community Guidelines**. I can't tell whether the client wanted to actually "copyright" or needed someone to "copywrite" as it was pretty vague...and I have to assume your "talent specialist" didn't know either...can they maybe figure out more about a job before they try to "talent specialize"....and if they can't spell or understand what a person actually does can they at least differentiate between entry level and someone who's been around the block ... quite a few times.
