Best way to pay a long-term translator?

Hello,

I'm a new client to Upwork and I'm currently in the process of hiring a freelancer for a long term project where they will be translating a few emails a week for up to a year. I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to go about payment since most translators have a "per word" rate (such as $0.12 per word), but as far as I can tell there's no option to hire someone for a long term job and not pay at an hourly rate. (If I'm wrong about this, please let me know!)

I was thinking of setting up an equivalent hourly rate that matches a translator's per word rate. So for example, if the translator usually gets 200 words translated in 60 minutes and charges $0.10 per word, the hourly rate would be $20 an hour. If I had a 400 word email, I would say the translator worked 2 hours (regardless of if it took less time) and pay them accordingly. Would this be a good way of going about the payment?

Fixed price can be used for long term no problem. You create and fund a milestone for a required task, let the freelancer do the task, and release the fund. Repeat. Don't end the contract.

Go with hourly. Check screenshots and acitivity very carefully the first few hours, and later when you trust them completely, you don't have to do anything. Creating small milestones daily will drive you crazy.

Paying freelancers an hourly rate is a simple, equitable way to go.
