ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Just to follow up on what Petra has pointed out:  If you are the original author of the book, then you own the copyright, and it is difficult to imagine why you would require a re-writing of the book. Do you mean that you wish to have the book translated, rather than "paraphrased"? Do you mean that the book is written for a high-level audience, and that it now needs to be "dumbed-down" for a less-educated audience? (If it is the latter, wouldn't you, yourself, be the person best qualified to do the re-writing?)

The process of re-writing a book or any written material for which one does not own the copyright, making it "just different enough" from the original so that the "new" text fools "Copyscape" or "Turn-It-In-dot-com" or a similar plagiarism-checking tool is known as "spinning." Such a process does not create original text. It is merely an "end run" around plagiarism-checking tools. "Spinning" does not create new material that one has actually legally and ethically authored. "Spinning" is not (let me repeat that:  is NOT) a valid or legal way in which to create a legally copyrightable and saleable work.

Peter, do you own the copyright to that ebook?

As far as the price for rewriting it is concerned (which most repotable writers will not be interested in) - it depends on the quality you expect.  Anyone skilled would charge you in the Thousands, not Hundreds.

If you were not the rights owner, you should not be doing this in the first place, of course.

Hi Peter,

You can post a job with more details about the project and either have freelancers send their proposals to it or invite them to apply. You can find details about how to post a job here. The Community isn't an appropriate place to hire freelancers but you can let us know if you have any questions and we'll be happy to help.

Also, please review Upwork ToS to make sure that the job you are planning to post doesn't contain any violations.

It seems as if maybe you are confusing plagiarism with copyrights. Rephrasing content can avoid copyright infringement, but stealing someone else's work by simply rewording it is still plagiarism. What you're looking to have done is not acceptable unless you own the copyright to the original e-book or have the copyright holder's permission.

Tiffany, I was confused as well, and the Wikipedia article I just read on paraphrasing of copyrighted material is hardly authoritative I imagine, but it referenced the principle of the "amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole", so all things being equal, would paraphrasing a work in its entirety be more questionable than paraphrasing portions?

1) You are not allowed to look for work in the forum. 2) You're responding to a post from 5 years ago. 3) What you're offering to do is unethical.

I will be surprised if the user is actually a person, not a bot.

lol
