I am new to Upwork, just the other day posted a frreelancer writing project and decided on one of the freelancers. How do I proceed? Is there a sample contract on your site to edit and use and send her?

You don't send a freelancer a contract file.

You don't need a sample contract.

Upwork has default contract language that users agree to when they use the site. Freelancers and clients are allowed to agree to alternative contracts. But that is rarely done. I have hired over 100 freelancers on Upwork. I have never used an alternative contract.
