Freelancer Unresponsive When Time to Deliver Product

Hello,

Reaching out regarding the app development project I have on upwork. I have been working on this app for quite some time with a freelancer here on upwork and we are set to go live with the app and migrate all of the app contents to a platform that we have set up. This is the final step to have the app on our own platform and I have not received any response to communications with the freelancer for 1 and 1/2 weeks which is not typical since he is usually responsive.

Looking for suggestions and alternatives to address this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Julissa,

I'm sorry to hear about the bad experience you've had. One of our team members will reach out to you via ticket as soon as possible and will assist you further with your freelancer. Thank you.

The success of your project doesn't depend on one individual freelancer.

Your project manager has presumably been receiving, reviewing and archiving all submissions on a regular basis.

You and your project manager presumably have access to the central server or code repository where all developers on the team have their work stored.

In a properly managed development project:

If, at any time, one individual freelancer dies and can no longer send you his files, this is NOT A PROBLEM because the project manager has been doing her work.

So you need to talk to the project manager.

If your project manager has not been ensuring that all source code and files are secured in a way that you have access to them without needing to talk that developer, then you may need to contact the developer in order to get his latest work. (Sorry if you're having difficulty doing so over the past week and a half.)

Obviously Upwork doesn't have your files.

Sometimes Upwork is able to contact a freelancer on behalf of a client. But that is something that is only done under extreme circumstances, and that isn't something you want to count on. If you have been counting on being able to contact each developer on your team at any time, forever and always, you need to rework your file submission and file repository protocols so that you don't get into a situation like this again.

re: "Freelancer Unresponsive When Time to Deliver Product"

You should not really think about a "time to deliver product."

There really shouldn't be a a "time to deliver product."

The work that the development team is doing should be constantly delivered. Their work should be delivered at least once a day.

You never want to have the project delivered "when it is finished." Only scammers deliver a large development project "when it is finished," while collecting payment beforehand.

Personally, as a freelancer who works on web applications and mobile apps and other development projects, I don't even do work on a local machine. As soon as I am hired for a project, whether fixed-price or hourly, I set up a central server and provide root credentials to the client. Then I do all my work there. So I never deliver anything to the client. They already have possession of everything at all times.
