Hiring my friend through Upwork

Hi everyone!

So this question has been on my mind and I would like someone to guide me if I could be in breach of Upwork's policies or not.

I run a textile business and sometimes I require work related to bookkeeping. Is it okay if I create a job and directly send invites to my friend who is an Upwork freelancer? Every communication and payment will be through Upwork's platform though.

Does Upwork allow me or my friend to do business like this here?

Why don't you just hire them and pay them directly? Generally it is not advisable to hire family or friends through Upwork.

I have read far too many horror stories written by people who hired a friend on Upwork. Freelancers have lost their access, lost money, had their funds confiscated, etc.

Not worth the risk.
