How do I become "eligible for ACH Bank Payments" or get a "qualifying Upwork billing history"

When we started using Upwork for talent, I read I could use ACH bank payments once we had a "qualifying Upwork billing history."

The "Pay by Bank Account" help page says:

--

In order to use your bank account as your billing method, you must have:

  • A valid U.S. billing address and bank account
  • Spent at least $1,000 in the last 12-months on Upwork
  • A record of on-time payments through Upwork
  • A back-up billing method: PayPal or credit card (in many cases)

--

which I understood to be the "qualifying Upwork billing history."

My company has supassed the spending threshold and we have all of the other qualifications (though there's nowhere to enter the bank account.

A similar post in this forum says this is available for "eligible clients."

How do we become eligible? I assumed once we passed the spending threshold it would be automatic.

Thanks.

Hi Ken,

It looks like you haven't entered a valid U.S. billing address yet. Could you visit your "My info" settings page and update the company information? After doing so, you may check your Billing & Payments page to confirm if you can add the payment method. If not, please let us know so we can check further.

Thanks for the quick follow up. I checked our company information and there *were* a few fields missing. It is updated now, but I still do not see the ACH/Bank Account option on the Billing & Payments page.

Note I didn't see anything for a "U.S. Billing Address" on the My info page. Just a set of "Address" fields. Thanks.

Thank you for following up, Ken.

I am stepping in for Luiggi, and I want to share the eligibility requirements for using your bank account as your billing method.

  • A valid U.S. billing address and bank account
  • Spent at least $1,000 in the last 12-months on Upwork
  • A record of on-time payments through Upwork
  • A back-up billing method: PayPal or credit card (in many cases)

Feel free to visit this helpful article for more information.

This is completely unhelpful, and shows that you did not read my original post at all, since I wrote those exact bullets in my post. None of that is working - please tell me how to fix this issue.

Hello Ken,

My apologies for the oversight. I checked your account, and I see here that you already raised a support ticket. I would like to assure you that one of our agents will be in touch with you shortly to provide the help you need. You can access your ticket on this page.

To become eligible for ACH Bank Payments on Upwork, you need to ensure that your account meets all the specified requirements. Since your company has already surpassed the spending threshold and meets the other qualifications, follow these steps to enable ACH payments:

1. Verify Eligibility : Double-check that you have a valid U.S. billing address and bank account, a record of on-time payments, and a back-up billing method like PayPal or a credit card.

2. Contact Support : Reach out to Upwork's customer support to confirm your eligibility and request activation of ACH payments. Provide them with your account details and mention that you meet all the necessary requirements.

3. Update Billing Methods : If needed, ensure that your back-up billing method (PayPal or credit card) is up-to-date and valid.

4. Add Bank Account : Once Upwork support confirms your eligibility, they should guide you on how to enter your bank account details.

Thank you - I've reached out and created a ticket and hopefully that will work.
