If possible, I get the client to pay the "supplier"; the supplier then ships me the goods. Or client ships me directly (e.g. project equipment).

 

Else, I bill the equivalent "manual hours".

 

The "UpWork fee", in this case, is the equivalent of a "GOODS and services tax"; even though only "services" are rendered.

 

Sort of like a questionable "book-keeping fee", I guess. (No free lunch).

 

ALL travel and accomodation should go though the client's travel agent ... the alternative (UpWork fees) is ridiculous (or a racket).
