How do i contact freelancers who sent a proposal that i didn't hire (to say thank you)

I can't see a way to get in touch and thank people for their proposal - is this not necessary?

Seems the right thing to do. This is my first use of Upwork. Advice greatly receieved 🙂

probably you can't message them directly but it's not important to thank them

Same as hiring: start interview. 

It is very good idea. Freelancer will be glad to know why and when rejected. It is better than ignore.

Freelancers who have used Upwork for any length of time probably don't care whether you contact them for any reason other than to hire them.

It's a courtesy that used to be common in the real world, but the virtual world has dispensed with such niceties.
