There is no step for "approving hours."

So you don't need to worry about this. When a freelancer logs time, the client's credit card is automatically charged and payment is automatically send to the freelancer.

Easy.

BUT:

If you WANT TO... After the work week ends (midnight GST on Sunday), clients have a five-day period during which they can review a freelancer's work diary.

You may look at the freelancer's work diary. If you see time segments that you believe show a freelancer NOT working on your project, or if the hours otherwise don't qualify for Upwork Payment Protection, then you can dispute those hours.

If you dispute hours that don't qualify for Upwork Payment Protection, then Upwork will remove those hours from the time that you need to pay for.

Some clients review work diaries.

Other clients don't.
