I can't post a job

I just created my profile, which makes Upwork think I'm a freelancer. Why can't I switch to "client" now? I need to post a job and find talent.

I went thru the motions and created my profile, which has now categorized me as a "freelancer". This is fine, but I'm actually searching for talent and now I have no access to talent listings and no way to post jobs. How do I fix this?

Hey Teresa, I think you can actually open an additional client account. To do these:

  1. Go to Settings > Contact Info and scroll down to Additional accounts.
  2. Choose New Client Account.
  3. Once set up, use the account menu at the top-right of your screen to switch between using Upwork as a client, freelancer, or agency.

You can find more information in this help article.

f you've created a freelancer profile on a platform but now want to switch to a client or employer account to access talent listings and post jobs, you can typically do so by following these steps:

  1. Log In to Your Account: Ensure you are logged in to the platform using the credentials associated with your freelancer profile.

  2. Navigate to Account Settings: Look for an option in the platform's menu or settings that allows you to access your account settings or profile settings. This may be labeled as "My Account," "Settings," or something similar.

  3. Profile Type or Role: Within your account settings, there should be an option to change your profile type or role. This is where you can switch from "freelancer" to "client" or "employer."

  4. Update Your Profile Type: Select the option to change your profile type and follow the prompts provided. You may need to confirm your decision, and the platform might ask for additional information about your business or organization if you're switching to a client or employer role.

  5. Verify Your Account (if required): Some platforms may require you to verify your account when making a switch like this. This could involve providing additional details about your business or undergoing a verification process.

  6. Access Talent Listings and Post Jobs: Once your profile type has been updated to "client" or "employer," you should have access to talent listings and the ability to post jobs or projects on the platform.

  7. Review Platform-Specific Guidelines: Be sure to review any platform-specific guidelines or terms related to the client or employer role. This may include information on fees, payment methods, and posting job listings.

  8. Start Posting Jobs or Searching for Talent: Now that your profile is configured as a client or employer, you can start using the platform to search for talent and post job listings as needed.

Keep in mind that the specific steps and options may vary depending on the freelancing platform you're using. If you encounter any issues or are unable to switch your profile type, it's a good idea to reach out to the platform's customer support or help center for assistance. They can provide guidance tailored to the platform's features and policies.

Thank you so much, this was very helpful.

Do you have a client account? If not then open the client account first. Then post the job.

You are unable to post any jobs because your profile is private. Make your profile public. Then all problems will be solved.

Wrong info. You need a client account to post jobs.

I understand you'd like to switch to a 'client' role to post a job on Upwork. To make this change, you can follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Upwork account.

  2. Go to your Upwork dashboard.

  3. Click on your profile picture or name at the top right corner.

  4. From the dropdown menu, select 'Settings & Privacy.'

  5. In the 'Settings & Privacy' section, navigate to 'Account Settings.'

  6. Under 'Account Settings,' you should see the option to 'Create a Company.' Click on this option to set up your client profile.

  7. Follow the prompts to complete your company profile.

  8. Once your client profile is set up, you should be able to post a job and find talent as a client.

If you encounter any difficulties during this process, please don't hesitate to reach out to Upwork's support team for further assistance. They will be able to guide you through the steps and help you switch to the 'client' role successfully.

Thank you for using Upwork, and I wish you the best in finding the talent you need for your project.
