Is giving feedback now required?

Hi.

I'm attempting to end a fixed-price contract, and I'd prefer not to leave (public) feedback for the freelancer.

It seems like the page is forcing me to leave feedback in order to end the contract - is this a new requirement?  Unique to fixed-price?

Yes, you have to leave feedback when closing a contract.

Hi Michael,

Please note that by design when a contract is closed both the freelancer and client are asked to leave feedback for each other and share their experiences. Feedback helps freelancers and clients build their reputation on the platform. It’s also useful for others when making decisions on who they want to work with. If at least $1 was paid on the contract, public feedback left on the contract will be shown.

Thank you!

Michael, you can ask the freelancer to close the contract. If you do that, you will never need to leave feedback.

Alternatively, you can close the contract yourself and leave no written feedback whatsoever. You are NOT REQUIRED to leave any written feedback. You can leave the text area blank, and you can just click 5 on all 6 categories you're asked to evaluate the freelancer in without thinking about it. You are NOT REQUIRED to take any time to consider each category and think of a score. If you click all fives, you can quickly complete the screen and close the contract.

The solution is to ask the freelancer to close the contract. That way you don't have to leave feedback.

The party that closes the contract has to leave feedback. The other party can, but doesn't have to.
