Is it safe to give freelancer FTP code?

I have a question about security, because I am not an advanced UpWork user/customer.

My freelancer has to upload some robots. He is yet "Administrator" on the website he is working on for me. Now he says, he needs "Ftp access (login+password) or hosting access (login and password to hosting control panel) to manage uploading robots". Is this nesseccary/normal?

Thank you!

Yes, providing ftp access is normal. Just be sure to change passwords when this freelancer has completed the project, and after all freelancers you hire. Not enough clients do that.

I'm not saying that you can't trust freelancers but stuff happens. Personal computers and email accounts get hacked and stored passwords can be exposed.
