I would really like to know from odesk CLIENTS what the method to the madness is for requesting (demanding/requesting) high quality content for ridiculously low rates - like offering $5.00 for a 500-word article, blog post, etc. That's 1 penny per word. REALLY? And you expect a writer to put together just the right words to convey your message, sell your product/service, and those words must be spelled correctly and used correctly, and the level of expertise must be "Expert"? A rate of a penny per word is insulting to any experienced, "Expert" writer. Surely, you've learned that "you get what you pay for" - or NOT. If you are truly serious about attracting the best/expert writers to represent your company/product/service/brand, you need to offer rates that are commensurate with the level of expertise you expect. JMHO.

Yeah, there are clients with unreal requests. I do audio and sometimes people expect from freelancers to create a Professional song for example, for 30 bucks or so. Does anyone realize that to record and produce a professional song people spent THOUSANDS of dollars and MONTHS of time.. It is outrageous and ridiculous, this is the main reason that I plan to leave this market. D.D.

Not gonna lie, i sometimes want to punch some of these people in the face (I say want, i wouldn't ever do it, of course). I seen one person who wanted a website like PornHub, with exact same functionality for $60 and he said, explicitly "DO NOT APPLY IF YOU CAN'T WORK FOR THIS BUDGET" - he's asking for a website that costs $1000's of dollars to build, for $60. I HATE some clients.

I'm not sure why you even bother with these clients. I too got upset in the past, but now I just skip them and let them be. If they think that they will get a proper quality for a few bananas, so be it. There's a lot of other, real clients who don't mind paying quality, you just need to find them.

As long as there are freelancers who accept low prices, there will be jobs with low budgets. This is frustrating, I know, I get upset everyday. I even thought at point when I started to work on Odesk that if I apply to a job that has a low rate and I explain to the client how much work involves and why I cannot work for $4.50 (after Odesk takes its fee), he will understand and will consider to increase the budget. But, no, it was all in my mind, jobs were awarded to freelancers that were willing to work for that budget and I wasted a bunch of applications. So, I do not apply anymore on projects with low budgets, only if it is a quick job that I can do it in 10-15 minutes or something like this and I wait for the right client. I believe there is a client for each freelancer

I know, it's hard. Odesk should increase the minimum amount at least for fix prices, other freelancing websites have $20-$25. I always wonder how much a freelancer can work for $5 and how satisfied is the client with the work made for $5. I believe they are satisfied if they continue to work in this way.

Gillian, You didn't miss out on anything, because if they wouldn't work for peanuts here they will someplace else and those people wanting to pay peanuts aren't going to pay more to someone else anyways...

I know I am not an expert and also I am just an entry level but I feel that too. I felt that the CLIENT insulted me for asking more skills and expertise which his hourly rate offer is less than a dollar. That Client insulted me as well as the other freelancer.
