Release Partial Payment Although Contract Not Complete

I want to release part of the payment held in Escrow to the freelancer. The Pay Now button provided in the help document is outdated (https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000980507-Review-a-Milestone). I have an Add Milestone instead of a Pay Now button. How do I release partial funds?

Hi Michele,

If there is an active (funded) milestone, it's possible to release a partial payment by clicking Pay and editing the amount. Once that is done, the remaining funds will stay in escrow and can be used to activate the next milestone. It's only possible to release that remaining amount either by activating the next milestone and releasing it or by closing the contract and releasing the funds in Escrow to the freelancer.
