Reminders to review proposals continuing after I chose a contractor and started job?

Can anyone help understand why I keep getting emails from Upwork telling me to review proposals for a job that I have already chosen and contracted someone to do?  I am concerned that I haven't initiated the contract effectively, but it does show as a live job and the contractor is working on it.  Why wouldn't Upwork then shut down other proposals for this job?!  Do I need to do something to actively close it?

I think you need to close the job (or make it private) if you don't want to receive any more proposals:

Thank you for the help!  I assumed it would close automatically when I selected someone.  I have closed it without affecting the live contract with the selected person.
