This is horrible! How do you even find freelancers on Upwork with this system?

Take note that I'm mostly looking for work on Upwork, but from time to time I'll have a project that I need help with so I'll post a job here. Currently looking for someone to help me with a bug on my website. So, a developer, someone who knows his or her way around Wordpress and coding and whathaveyounot.

1. The applicants list is not showing any applicants for over 30 min, even though the job posting shows that people have applied to the job

2. Suggested freelancers, what the heck is going on. I have specs for min 80% JSS and so on, Upwork lists new workers with 0 hours, no feedback and the highlight of it all, none of them are in the skillset I require.

Job is listed under Web Development.

I got people who are working in the following fields:

Equity Research

Financial Management

Financial Writing

Economic Analysis

Investment Research

I'm actually starting to see why so much of my applications go unanswered, since there's obviously something seriously wrong with the main part of this page - searching qualified freelancers with the skillset you're after. Ugh.

Ivana,

The suggested list was always wrong it's not something new and I think even Upwork is aware of it, but I am surpurised to hear that applicants have not shown up yet, may be there is delay, I hope moderator can clarify if this delay is by design or it's some kind of glitch.

If they are aware of it, why isn't anything being done? Terrible, I can image how somebody who isn't familiar with this site must have problems with figurning it out. If I was a first time client just opening my account here, I'd give up and move on to Freelancer or something, lol.

I can relate to this deeply, I work for an employer with an upwork account where I outsource a bulk of our writing needs and every now and then I will find people from completely unrelated fields applying for and are clearly struggling with those who are really right for the job. I even had one experience where I posted a job offer for a health writing position and all I got were "I think I can do this - give it to me. Now." type of people.

It's really frustrating for the employer especially when the project is timebound and you're sitting duck in front of your desk praying for the right applicant to magically appear and send in a proposal plus the amount of people you'd have to archive when the pay is too good that almost everyone applies. Not being picky with the freelancers usually end in a sour note with half baked and dull results.

My guess is your looking for seasoned freelancers but your job descriptions are red flagged in the back of peoples minds based on past experiences.

I will say... and this is coming from someone new to upwork... These points are precious; it seems as if some of the listings are purley listed just to eat away at peoples points.

Ivana, thank you for raising this issue. I happen to know my 'way around Wordpress' and might have applied if I saw the listing and the budget/level of expertise was ok. What frightens me is, if a fair number of these 'Suggested freelancers' are counted in the number of proposals Upwork displays when you look at the Job description, so it looks like there are 20-50 proposals when there really isn't, then I may pass up on the job thinking there are too many applicants already.

I was actually going to give a chance to newcomers, since the job I think was not that difficult.

As a client, I have a verified payment method and 5 star feedback, so no reason why the posting should be red flagged in people's minds. Anyways, I received the bids (meaning actually beeing able to see them on my listing) around 5 hours later.

As a freelancer, I'm realizing why so many of my connections are wasting away.

Hi Ivana,

I see your client account was closed yesterday so unfortunately I can't follow up on the job you posted and check the issues you mentioned. I've checked and we don't have any other reports of delays like the one you mentioned, and I'm not able to replicate the Suggested freelancers list since I don't have access to the job description you used.
