Tons of people applying without addressing my job description....

Hi there,

I just closed my first job posting on UpWork. I was flooded by applicants applying but who didn't have what I was looking for.

For example, it's a small project on Weebly...I got a ton of applicants telling me all about their complex programming experience and experience on other platforms (not Weebly). It could tell they were just copying and pasting their cover letter to my posting.

I also got a ton of calls, What's App, emails and texts! (many voice mails!!) I understand that I shouldn't have listed my website (lesson learned from last time).

Any tips? I'd like to repost and I'll be more specific.

Thanks!

Kathy

Welcome to Upwork! Maybe you could post in caps that you are not looking for a developer and must have weebly experience. I would put that on a line by itself so that it stands out because the same people who copy and paste cover letters are the same who don't really read descriptions. Also add Weebly in the title if you didn't do that before so that people without weebly experience are more likely to pass over the post. I hope that helps.

I think the best thing to do is just pay the $30 for featured and invite several people you like from a search. You'd probably find a better relationship too with someone who could be ongoing support.

I know for unlimited invites you have to pay, but do you have to pay for invite only posts if you only do the three invites allowed?

Nope. Three free nvites per post, public or not.

For those of us who are accustomed to how Upwork has been for many years... I think Jennifer's suggestion may come as a shock. We're aware that Upwork now offers a $30 premium job posting, that allows for unlimited invites.

But for someone like myself, accustomed to free job postings, and very generous allotments of possible invites... like 50 per day for a single job posting or something...

I see someone saying go ahead and pay $30 for what used to be free... and I'm kind of shocked.

But then I think about it... Upwork no longer allows what it used to allow for free... But it DOES have a way to get that same functioality - by paying for it...

If a client is has a big task that needs to be done... Or even a medium-sized task... Then is going to make sense to get the best freelancer (or freelancers) possible for that job...

Maybe the client is developing a website, and plans to spend around $15,000 total on the project. Or maybe the client wants to hire an editor for a book, and plans to spend about $1000.

If that's the case, then $30 is essentially an irrelevent expense. If that $30 means the difference between finding great freelancers who will minimize cost and maximize quality... then it would be money well spent.

A few follow up questions:

1) Does it cost the client anything to make a post invite only?

2) Do the talent specialists only invite people when the client asks?

3) Is there a fee for the talent specialists? Or are they part of something else?

4) When you have talent specialists involved does that mean you have unilmited invites?

I ask these questions because all of sudden I'm hearing from talent specialists again...so I'm curious.

No.

I think so. To be confirmed.

https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003546407-Upwork-Talent-Specialists

On a sidenote, I don't have a client Plus account and I never featured a post, but after I complained to them about one freelancer I was offered the help of a TS (that I did not use because I already managed to find another person).

4) When you have talent specialists involved does that mean you have unilmited invites?

Good question.

I am contractor, basically a web developer. I have 10+ years of exprience in this field. I can suggest you few points to make your contractor hunt successful.

I see here you've got lot of suggestion, I want to include some.

First: make some specific filter options, like, hours they worked, region they live as well as some skills.

secondly: add more then 5+ ques which they need to answer.

Hopefully, if you add these 2 things you can sort out the applicant very quickly.

Thanks
