Unresponsive freelancer. No logged hours.

My new freelancer is unresponsive. This is the second freelancer this happened with. Very unprofessional and disappointing. She said she would be in contact on Wednesday to give me an update but she did not. Her contract is a set hourly compensation and 20 hours weekly limit. I have no milestone set but weird things happened on my Wordpress website that she is supposed to work on. She has all logins and I am nervous because she does not respond. She also has no logged hours. I have disabled manual time. Should I just close her contract and move on? What should I do?

Thank you all for the suggestions. I heard from her today telling me that Pakistan had elections and the internet was down for 2-3 days.

Wish she had told me that this might happen beforehand.

I will give her a chance.

You should revoke all access to your website, and close the contract.

Try explaining the entire situation to Upwork, I am sure they'll help you out.

Yes. Close contract and change passwords.

100% agreement with Radia and Mykola. Remove her WordPress login access and any other access, and close the Upwork contract.

Excuses, excuses ๐Ÿ˜

Election date is known months in advance, and internet is the main 'thing' for this (they should have more than one backup).

A professional would not have those as excuses. They wouldn't have any excuse at all, except maybe in the case of extreme disaster, or the death of someone very close.

You should consider firing the freelancer. You should care about your project, not the freelancer ('s excuses). This place is infested with scammers and the no-skills. Don't waste time with them, there are ~20 million freelancers and only ~900k clients here.

Read a few pages in the client forum here (didn't realize it moved) to not lose thousands for something you can't use, or even having your website deleted. Those cases are not uncommon here, where Upwork will simply "cannot help you" when it happens.

I got curious and searched.

If the entire country's internet is down for 2-3 days, that's an extreme disaster, and we should see posts about it from the many Pakistanis here.

I would like to see wellness checks!. if a client or freelancer is not logged in for say 48 hours, an authorized partner should check in on them and report to all contacts involved with teh MIA person. I had a lady from 2 states away that stayed off line for w week and ignored my messages! She never closed the contract so I waited 14 days to get PAID!

I wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic.

A wellness check? Are you serious? And you are so very upset because it took 14 days to get paid? OK, annoying, frustrating, but hardly requiring freelancers to have paid people to follow them around and notify everyone if they are delayed.

What difference does it make where the freelancer is, unless it is a local job?

Maybe the client had a reason for not jumping through the hoops immediately. The client might have been reviewing your work, ill, engaged in other urgent matters, family or friends emergencies, etc. You were paid, without having to go to a dispute or arbitration. In short, the platform worked as it should.

I suggest you read the Terms of Service and all the rules around the contracts, so that you understand how the platform works, and when you will be receiving funds. The Academy can help you build a professional profile and learn about the rules of the platform.
