Upwork Policy Q - Subcontracting Work

I hired someone to do some work at a fairly decent rate and figured out that they actually had someone else do the work and use their account for the time logs.

The work is ok but took too long to finish. But that wasn't the deal. I didn't hire someone for them to hire it out to someone else.

Am I wrong to feel cheated by that?

Hi Scott,

While subcontracting is allowed on fixed-price contracts and regulated by article 8.2 of the User Agreement, the freelancer you hired can't mislead you about who's doing the work. In other words, they need to inform the client if the job or part of it is subcontracted.

Could you please submit a ticket to support with more details? Please, include the name of the freelancer or the contract and evidence of them subcontracting.

Scott, adding to Valeria's comments ...

You have every right to feel cheated. You were.  The freelancer was dishonest, unethical, and unprofessional.

It takes "longer" because there was a middle-man.

Then again, perhaps Mr. Middle can only "talk"; and you're lucky there was someone else doing the actual work.

That why everyone looks like Brad Pitt.

How was this resolved? I've ran into this issue as well and was very unhappy about it.   Did you get a refund for the work?

re: "Did you get a refund for the work?"

Why would they get a refund?

Upwork doesn't promise refunds to everybody for everything that they don't like.

If you don't like a freelancer, stop working with him.

Because they hired one person and someone else logged the time.
