Upwork won't accept my payment method

I am getting the following error message when trying to add my payment method to the account; 

 

"Our records indicate that the payment method entered is already associated with the maximum number of accounts. Please add a different payment method."

 

This particular card is not added to any other account. It is a normal credit / debit card. 

 

Please advise.
