What Makes a Good Client? Freelancers Want to Know.

**Edited for Community Guidelines**

As freelancers, we’re often asked about trust, reliability, and how we’ll ensure client satisfaction. But here’s the question no one seems to ask: What makes a good client?

Freelancers work tirelessly to meet deadlines, offer creative solutions, and provide data-driven results. But for us, a truly successful partnership goes beyond delivering on tasks. It’s about creating a relationship built on mutual respect and clear communication.

So here’s the question I pose to you, clients:

  • What does trust look like on your end? Is it about timely delivery, transparency, or something else?
  • How do you define clear expectations? Are we aligned on goals, deadlines, and feedback loops?
  • Are you willing to offer constructive feedback? Communication is key, but are you giving freelancers the insight they need to adjust and excel?

The longevity of any working relationship requires clarity and collaboration. Just as freelancers must demonstrate their skills and dependability, clients play an equally crucial role in fostering a sustainable relationship.

A good client sets the stage for growth—by offering feedback, respecting boundaries, and maintaining realistic expectations, you make it easier for us to deliver results that exceed your standards.

If you’re seeking consistency and long-term results, here’s the challenge: How are you contributing to a positive, collaborative dynamic?

We want to hear from you. What do you think makes for a successful client-freelancer relationship, and what do you expect in return?

Let’s start a conversation that goes both ways.

Maybe they should try taking a nap. What do you think? Naps? Many naps? Vitamins too. Workout.

What are your thoughts?

Naps are always welcome Jennifer. Naps and a good snack.

Right. At times the basics are a little incoherent.
