What is the best way to modify a contract

Hi.

My illustrator is doing wonderful work, and she's great to work with.

But the scope of the job has expanded, so I need to increase the
fee, add a milestone for the additional work, and adjust the existing
milestones to reflect what we're actually doing.

What is the best way to do that?

At the moment I'm thinking:

  1. Create a new contract for the 3rd milestone and the additional fee.
  2. Make payments on the first two milestones as we've recently agreed,
    and ignore their current descriptions.

That will work, but it would be nice if the revised contract were a better reflection of the work performed.

Hi Eric,

When you wish to raise your freelancer's rate, Upwork automatically starts a new contract. The previous contract ends and both you and your freelancer may leave feedback. However, once the job is closed and the final feedback is provided, that final feedback will be displayed in your work history. Both feedback given while updating the contract and the final feedback contribute to your Job Success score.

Eric,

I don't know if this will help you or not, but milestone descriptions are known only to clients and freelancers. That information does not show up on a profile, only the original RFP title will be used in the public feedback when the job is completed.

If you're working with a new freelancer, she might appreciate having the job end and a new contract started, because that will help her profile immensely.

Otherwise, if it were me, i'd be fine with a client adding milestones as needed. I would suggest you ask your freelancer if she has a preference. Also note that the option to give a bonus is available to the client.
