What is the difference between paid out, and funded esrow protection?

On my billing screen, it shows a paid out and escrow amount. What's the difference between these two?

Hi Shannon, 

"Paid out" means how much you've already paid the freelancer for the contract. "Funded (Escrow Protection)" is for the milestones yet to be paid to the freelancer.
