Why so many invitations?

Just out of curiosity, why would a client post a job and send 150+ invitations?

I received an invitation today - actually two invitations from the same client for different jobs - and I saw that one of the jobs was sent to 150+ invitees, and the other 100+.The client and job both look legitimate. The job description has a good amount of detail. The job itself is fairly specialized and high-paying (not data entry or something they may want to hire 10-20 or even 2 people to do).

I'm not interested in the job, declined the invitations. But I can't help wondering what the strategy is here or what kind of mindset is behind this behavior.

Low stakes/no stakes question, I'm just curious :). Any thoughts?

Maybe they usually have a low acceptance/proposal rate and are trying to just hit it in one go.
Although maybe their low acceptance rate is due to the reason that many freelancers of that calibre are put off by the number of invites.
