trying to email prospective hire and was asked to update my payment method to email the prospect.  couldnt find where the fees are stated for services to my account.

Setting up a billing method signals to freelancers that you are serious about getting a project done and prepared to hire. Without seeing that you’ve added a verified billing method, some freelancers may be less likely to respond to your direct message.

As for the fees, please note that clients are charged a 3% payment processing and administration fee on all payments they make to freelancers they hire. Also, if you'd like to continue with Upwork Plus Membership, it is a monthly subscription of $49.99/month.
