estimate on potential project?

My client wants me to provide an estimate on a potential project then will decide if they want to do it. Since I'll have to hire a freelancer, how do I get estimates on a project that may not even be approved?

So, you're just a "middle man"?

If you need to "hire a freelancer to do the job", I guess you better hire one "to do the estimate".

That's what I was afraid of...spending money on a project that may not even happen! I'll have to contact some developers I know directly even though they charge like crazy!

Sometimes you need to spend money to make money.

I have been paid thousands of dollars on Upwork to write up project descriptions and detailed quotes for projects that never were actually started.

Sometimes project managers or "middle men" put together pitches that may be well-planned, but they end up not getting fully funded or chosen.

It happens.
