Hi all! I'm new here and still exploring the platform. I joined in last March. I've sent some proposals, got an interview (did not get the job).
I've been using ChatGPT to help out wrting cover letters. I obviously edit them and include relevant addiitional information. I find it incredibly helpful. But have been wondering whether, although costumized and edited, that may cause clients a negative impact on me. I'm sure that, like me, they can notice it (can they?).
Would love to hear your thoughts on that. Cheers from Brazil.

not all of them can notice ChatGPT. Try ChatGPT4 that's nearly impossible to be noticed. But the problem is you should be natural while talking to a client. One of my friend who is top-rated at Upwork and uses mix of proposals (sometimes ChatGPT, sometimes her own writing) and she gets equal percentage of responses and hires.

If the ChatGPT is in your native language, it is very easy to spot, even if the user was trained. Especially for people like you who are getting started, sending out Chat GPT 3 or 4 can have bad results. I understand people want to present the best work, but there are a number of clients who will not accept it because it is plagiarism and poor writing. I feel it is important to learn how to write your profile and proposals yourself. Don't set yourself up for trouble by believing it is easy to deceive clients with ChatGPT. You need to inform the client you are using it.

Thanks for replying, Jeanne. I do agree with you. I don't just copy and paste from ChatGPT exactly for that reason. Nevertheless, I do get inspiration/ideas/impact sentences from that. Find it very useful. Cheers.

No. I believe that people can feel when someone put effort into a custom proposal and didn't just copy paste a response that can be sent to anyone.

Hi Julio,
I don't use ChatGPT for cover letters, however use Jasper, ChatCPT, and Bard for client research and creativity.

I use AI to give me insights, get ideas here and there, and then check it all using this site. It's proven to be very helpful indeed. Please, note: I DO NOT use any AI-generated content, but do get ideas when having writer's block.

AI content detectors are unreliable, and different detectors often give different results.

The problem will likely arise when you get an interview and your engagement in chat doesn't match the writing style of your proposal.

Thanks Julio for your great article.
Also I have used ChatGPT for writing cover letters.
And even I only copy the content from it.
From now on, I won't use ChatGPT for writing cover letters and will do by myself.
