Possible Upwork Promotion?

There are a few of my old clients who have said they have work coming for me. I had planned on reaching out to them this week, wishing them a happy New Year and reminding them of my existence.

Then I thought, wouldn't it be great if Upwork had a promotion for clients. Maybe a one time thing or whatever works, it is just an idea. But here goes...Clients pay zero fees when starting a new job with a freelancer they have previously worked with.

New Year, new work, more money for everyone?

Clients already pay minimal fees which only just cover the payment processing costs, and many have the option to pay just a flat fee each month instead of a percentage of each transaction. If a client is discouraged from starting a new job because of a 2.75% transaction fee that's probably not a client you want to work with anyway.

I agree with Jennifer, the clients aren't really paying much in fee anyway,

But maybe Upwork could rather send out an email reminding the clients which freelancers they have worked with and rathed high. Leaving out the ones they gave a negative private feedback to.

I'd rather do that outreach myself. Cultivating ongoing client relationships is part of what a professional freelancer needs to do, and those of us who do it well deserve any advantage we can create for ourselves over our competitors who lack the initiative to do it. IMO, UW has no business engaging in that aspect of my business.

But for Upwork your business is their business, so why not remind a client that he/she has had success with freelancers on the site. Not talking about ongoing client/freelancer relationships, but ended contracts where they have left a good rating for the freelancer.

I agree that a freelancers should do this anyway, if they need/have time for more work. But I was thinking more from Upworks perspective, to re-activate clients that has left the site.

And maybe I am not what you would describe as a "good freelancer" that has the initiative to reach out to former clients, as I will not do this. I don't have time to take on any new clients anyway. But if Upwork wants to use me to promote their site to my former clients I don't mind. Maybe that will give other freelancers an opportunity to get more work.

If the client is not willing to pay a very small fee for working with me again, then perhaps they were not that happy with the work I delivered in the first place.

I agree with Phyllis. If Upwork starts promoting me (and others) to my past clients at intervals without my knowledge, then I contact a client, the client may start to feel pressured and harassed even though I didn't know he'd been previously contacted.

In addition, Upwork might well trigger a client contacting me at a time when I don't have time to take on his job. Of course, that can happen at any time, but I imagine it's more annoying from the client side if he gets an email that makes him think, "Oh, yeah...I should have Tiffany do X!" and then I turn him down.

Cultivating relationships can really only be handled directly.

As Tiffany said, plus the fact that Upwork simply cannot write a coherent sentence.  I much prefer to  market myself!
