Turn Job Recommendation Emails Off! Wow, I didn't know you could do this!

Hi all,

I know people have been posting about how annoying the job recommendation emails are. But guess what? You can turn this feature off! Here's how!

1) Click on your name at the top of the screen on the UpWork site

2) Click "Settings"

3) Go to "Notification Settings" on the menu at the left and click on it

4) Scroll all the way to the very bottom of the page and uncheck the  box that says "Upwork has job recommendations for me."

I switched off job recommendations a few week's ago. And recently switched off talent specialists too. Bliss!

I was also looking for a way to filter out those annoying "A job you applied to has expired" messages. As far as I can see, they're completely useless, except to remind us how many dud jobs get posted. I don't think I found a way to do it. But I haven't received any more of those messages for the last week or two, so maybe I succeeded after all.

Hi Richard,

I've been rummaging around the Notification Settings section a bit. There are a lot of things we can turn off and on, but it's not always obvious what they are.

I think the way to remove the expired posting email might be to uncheck one of the boxes in the recruiting section.  I'm not sure why the freelancer interface would show a recruiting section, unless this is part of the interface that they didn't customize on the freelancer end. I can't see a reason why we would have a section like this unless it controlled something analogous to what's happening on the client end. That's a guess.

Edited to add: I think the first screenshot I  posted showed the wrong item to uncheck to stop getting emails about expired job posts. I think Richard's right that it is this one in the Freelancer and Agency Proposals section:

cancelled job.jpg

It's wonderful that we have at least some control over some things; isn't it?

Thanks, Renata. It looks to me as if those Recruitment settings are for clients, not freelancers. However, on checking my settings, I see that I'd already cleared the setting "A job I applied to is modified or cancelled". So I think that must have been the right one. I just forgot that I'd already found it.

Great topic, I also turned the notifications off mostly because they are recommending me jobs that have already been posted 10-15 days ago which pretty much kills the whole point of the "recommendation".
