What do you think of Upwork's badges in terms of design?

 

Hello, Upwork community! I hope everyone is doing well on this fine Monday. 

 

I like all badges but feel that the Top Rated+ could be a bit more creative. I like the Top Rated a lot because the dark blue color aligns with the color of the verified and client satisfaction percentage. The green Rising Talent looks lovely, and the Expert Vetted also looks sharp. 

 

I want to clarify that I am not asking about the badges' value or meaning but rather your opinion on their designs. So feel free to share your thoughts if you're feeling like it 😀

Hey Bashar, I see where you're coming from brother. We're just commenting on the aesthetic value of the badges, knowing well that the design has little to no value/effect on our work as freelancers. Nor are we demanding an immediate re-design.

 

Just exchanging opinions on how the Top-Rated+ badge can be improved if at all possible.

I think the Top Rated+ badge looks a little underwhelming and could be better. I agree with your observations about other badges as well.

It's good to know that I am not the only one who has mixed feelings about the Top Rated+ badge 😂

 

But hey, I'm not complaining, and I am grateful for what I have. I just think that developers can do more in this regard. Perhaps in a future update? We'll wait and see.

Badges are a complete distraction. You are here for jobs, not badges. 

Who cares what they look like? Not one client ever (EVER!) woke up and said, "I need to hire a freelancer with a badge." They wake up and say, "I need to hire a freelancer who is reliable and has great skills."

 

Who cares what a badge looks like? You do, but how many clients do? NONE!

I see where you're coming from, Anthony. But I respectfully disagree. If badges weren't useful and didn't make a differene we wouldn't have them in the first place. Badges are linked to reliability and better skills, that's how freelancers earn them. I also mentioned in my post that the aim of the discussion was in terms of design so I kindly ask to stick to the topic.

I don't understand the issue with what the badges look like. The clients do not go look at the badges, or care what they look like. Just because something is created, doesn't mean it needs to exist. Rising talent is easily manipulated, and now you only need two tiny jobs to get your JSS. Why does it matter what they look like?

Anthony is correct.

 

I have been saying I have no idea why I bother to maintain a 100% JSS when it doesn't matter anymore.

Stick to the topic? I smothered the topic. Can't get any closer to the topic than that.

 

And, I think it's fine to be interested in the aesthetics here, but I can't agree that clients give a whoop one way or another. 

 

I came back to this topic because Upwork sent me an email that said, "Someone following a topic you are interest in just got picked as a solution!"

 

Why do you think Upwork sent me that email? Does it help me get a job? No ... it just sells me that Upwork is the place to be. It's like handing out candy when you walk into a retail store. I didn't know the topic was this one -- and curiosity got the better of me. 

 

I see so many threads about things that have little to no importance, it seems bizzare. My comments are strictly about getting people to focus on  what matters. I was a freelancer for 25 years before Upwork existed. I was a freelancer before the Internet existed. On Upwork, I see member after member swiping at shadows, like a roomful of kittens. That said, if badge design is your raison d'etre, have at it.  I won't get in your way.

I don't understand how your frustration with Upwork relates to this topic. I never mentioned the word "client" in my original post. You created a case and then elaborated despite asking you to stay within the topic. What matters to you might not matter to others, and vice versa. So, be respectful to others and keep up with the times.

 

People who act as if they know it all are the ones who know the least. We have enough negativity surrounding us, so we don't need to bring it here as well. I hope our interaction will be more fruitful next time. Take it easy on yourself.
