Game Designer - Profession tagged incorrectly by search engine

Hi,

In video game industry term designer is not used the same way as in web development or app development, where it has mostly become synonymous with an artist I suppose.

Game Designer/Game Design or Level Designer/Level Design, for example, has nothing to do with the actual content creation of 2D or 3D art assets or UI.

To quote wikipedia:

Video game design is the process of designing the content and rules of a video game in the pre-production stage and designing the gameplay, environment, storyline, and characters in the production stage. The designer of a game is very much like the director of a film; the designer is the visionary of the game and controls the artistic and technical elements of the game in fulfillment of their vision.

The problem when searching for Game Designer or Level Designer the search engine assumes the user is searching for artist and all the tags/freelancers mostly show graphic artists or UI designers.

So, this makes it difficult to find correct freelancer as a client and also makes life more difficult for Game/Level Designer freelancers.  (At least as far as game industry in general sees these terms.)

The same problem does not occur when for example searching for Sound Designer. So maybe the search engine could be tweaked.

Hi Sandro,

Thanks for sharing your feedback about the search results in the marketplace. I'll go ahead and share this with the team for their information, and consideration.

In the meantime, I can connect you with our Talent Specialist Team so that they can assist you with shortlisting freelancers for your project. Let me know so that I can forward your account information to them.

It looks like the search engine is treating the words "game" and "designer" as two separate words. If you search for "game designer" (in quotes) you get much better results. Of course, a client may not think to do that.

This contrasts with Google, where you don't need to put quotes around game designer to get good results.
