Hello Everyone,

First, we want to acknowledge the ongoing feedback you all are sharing. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, opinions, and concerns with Boosted Proposals and want to ensure you our product teams are listening and reading every comment.

Second, we want to reiterate that part of our mission at Upwork is to connect talent with more opportunities which is why we launched Boosted Proposals in support of that. With that in mind, we know there are lingering questions and we want to take this opportunity to be transparent on the value of Boosted Proposals to freelancers and clients, and also answer a few of the recurring questions/themes.

Why Boosted Proposals? We created Boosted Proposals as an opportunity for freelancers to show a strong interest in jobs they feel they are the best fit for. Additionally, Boosted Proposals increases the chances of getting noticed and receiving their desired rate.

What is the true value for freelancers and clients? Boosted Proposals provides an additional lever for freelancers to pull when submitting a proposal without removing existing features (JSS, Top-rated, etc.)  that signal success. Freelancers with a Boosted Proposal have more control over their outcomes while clients gain insight on who has a strong desire for a job. Additionally, boosting improves a freelancer’s chances of being hired by 43%, this means that a freelancer can use the feature as a way to secure the same amount of work they did before, but lower their proposal volume, saving their time and effort.

Based on the test, it appeared there was a lot of negative feedback in the Community, how did you decide to move forward with Boosted Proposals? We collected feedback via multiple channels and methods within our testing, including tracking hire rates and speaking directly with freelancers and clients—this evidence fueled the team to move forward with this feature.

We hope this addresses some concerns regarding Boosted Proposals and the Upwork team always encourages feedback as we look to make Upwork The World’s work marketplace.

Best,

Christopher

From applying to jobs for free , To buying connects to apply , To throwing connects at boosting your proposals !

And then they say "We designed this feature to help you make the most out of your Connects".

OK !

Have a look at this , Looks like a casino

We're hard-working Freelancers, not lab rats or junkies at a slot machine.  The Boost feature is insulting.

I share you anger in a way, there was an UpWork community member who displayed a blog post.

"Increase you proposal transparency " when I read it it just left me sick of the system they are implementing.

The moderators with upwork are playing the company saints and justifying this and when people are asking in forum treads there treads are merged to topics like this really fast.

Looks like they are hiding distaste of the new system, the new freelancers may not know about this so I think rhe targeting the new guys mostly.

Yeah, I have seen connects of 100 + being spent as well.

Tayyab, may I also ask how has it you experience been in the month of Feb when you sent out proposals?

Did you knotice anything from client response time in in answering proposal ?

Hi, this feature is totally irritating and wastage of money. How is it beneficial for new freelancers? I am new freelancer but i am worried about how i will purchase these costly connects and upwork again updated his feature. I was thinking how i can raise my voice to increase connects or low their cost. But upwork introduce this feature. I am 100% disagree with this update.

I think It would be best if there is no proposal Boost bid. Many new freelancer do not have many connects and also money to buy connects. So they do not have any chance in front of rich freelancer who have money to waste in this boost bid.

It's pathetic, waste of time and money and horrible. Now time to move on with other freelancing platforms like fiver, freelance, Guru, etc.

Hi there,

Ever since Upwork introduced boost proposals, every freelancer I know is disappointed with this. This feature is not necessary nor productive. A good freelancer can get the client's attention without this boost feature but now the client can get distracted by the highest bidder proposals and affect his choice negatively. Therefore, I and many other freelancers would be happy if this feature will be cancelled. I hope you consider my opinion. Thanks, Upwork!

Completely reasonable!

You need to get rid of this. It's just a way for the big wigs to make more money off of us. Disgusting! You take enuohgh from ppl already!!

Agreed.

Just asked this because i've tried it several times and haven't seen any changes on the number of interviews i got compared to the number of bids i make with the minimum connects.

Does anybody noticed any difference?

This isn't definitive information, but for the last 4-5 jobs that I've started a contract for, I've boosted the posting.

It's another way to "differentiate" the product (i.e. the product being you); some clients may care, others may not

Yes i know, but by your experience did you notice any difference on the number of interviews, with and without boosting?

To be honest, I did not feel a difference. Whatever you submit with boosted or not.

Marco recently I have see client with 100% hire ratings post jobs and then no interview or just one interview and not hire any one.

With the bid period I bet the top 3 keep changing and since I can only assume what the client is seeing I belive it's causing them to rely on other platforms to get work.

I bid on 30 projects out of which 3 hired someone, others still have not hired anyone, even when I check stats a week later no one is hired.

But assuming that the bid on the top may have left a bad taste in there moth so hire rates are going down ( this is only an assumption but definatly shocking stats)

Boosting sets your offer in top 3 I think if someone else doesn't upbid you, so make sure you write some good sentences in your offer something that will catch the client's attention to view your offer and your profile

Did and do that everytime i boost and don't boost, but in  your case did you notice a difference betweenn boosting and not boosting?

I didn't see any difference.. I only boost when I feel strong about some project, but it didn't have success in the client replying to me.

Good question there, you asked what's on my mind, Marco.

In my status analytics, what it shows is that i got viewd 29 times 3 weeks ago with boosting ( i got one job).

Then i finished that job and made my bids without boosting, what it shows in my analitics is that got viewd 25 times. (got one job)....

Personaly i don't see any difference.

Bid boosting does it work?

Quick answer: NO.

Yep, that's my feeling...

Just wanted to check if anybody was having a different experience.

No, it doesn't work. It's been worse for me, I don't do it anymore.

Nope I haven't, but then How would you know? There's no way of tracking your proposals which I think is something we should have. At least give us a notification of whether they were even looked at would be nice

You can check it on your profile status - analytics. The bost are in blue and the regular in light green

Yes but no way to check which one got viewed. Only number of views are given.

Yeah unfortunately you can't see which one, that's why i only bid in the first week with boosting and then the second time (after the job was done) i only bid with the minimum connects...

That is good strategy

Geessh thanks can you tell I'm a new guy 😉

With this continuos changes UW is making, trust me that we all are!!😅

Hello Upwork Team,

I am working on upwork as a freelancer more than 2+ years, my life was going good with upwork, however you guy has implemented bad feature and that is top bidding system, after this features i am not be able to get or win any single job, when i apply to job, but other freelancer come and bid with highest connects, so it is making impossible to win job as i am top-rated on upwork and not getting any job after apply on several jobs because of connects bidding system.

I was thinking that i can build my career on upwork, but after that i am in tensed now and thinking to quit freelancing.

Help us upwork team that making us very difficult.

Thanks

Muhammad Hassan

Hi Marco!

I must say that I worked for me many times, but it's not only bidding, it's also what you wrote and if you responded on clienns's needs.

Absolutely, the way you bid, the way you present yourself are fundamental. No doubt.

I am note sure what happen if you boost with 40 connect but your proposal is poor

Do you really need to purchase Boost to apply for projects? Optional or a must ?

Someone should kindly answer this question because I'm also interested in the answer. I noticed that most times, only my boosted proposals get viewed. 😓

Glad we are on the same page

How do you know if your proposal have reviewed or not

from where could I know?

You can't do this because up work doesn't allow, but you can know how many people who saw your profile (the clientmay see your proposal but don't see your profile )

So you can know this by going to https://www.upwork.com/my-stats/
