0% fee when you bring your own client

Hello,

In May 2017 I received a message from Upwork with a special promotion with 0% fee when I bring my own client to Upwork (I am a Top rated freelancer) and I received an invitation linked to send it to my client for register and activate this 0% fee. A few days ago, I send it to my client and he registered and started a Upwork contract and now, when the contracted is just ended I realized that I have standard 20% fee. What to do in this situation? It's obvious that I was not intended to bring my client to pay 20% to Upwork.

I've read about bring your own talent on Upwork and wonder how I can use it for this client. Do I need to have the client just make an account and ask me to be their freelancer or is there another way? I would like to use the 0% fees that bring your own talent says I can get. Thanks. Keith

If you just have a client create an account using the regular procedure, then you will not qualify for 0% fees.

You need to obtain a special link from Upwork and provide that link to the client.

Hi Richard,

The Bring Your Own Talent program allows clients to invite a freelancer that is not currently a registered member of Upwork to work with them on a contract.

Bring Your Own Client program is currently only available for Top Rated and Rising Talent freelancers. If you are not meeting those requirements, you can still send a link to your profile to your client and they can sign up for an Upwork account and hire you for a contract. You’ll be paying standard Service Fee.

I just got hired by a client who is not on Upwork and I asked him to join Upwork as a client and proceed our contract on Upwork. As stated in the Top Rated/Top Rated Plus perks, if a freelancer brings new client on Upwork, they will be charged 0% of Upwork Tax on all future contracts.

Thank you. Having been working through this platform (Elance since 2008), which also has been my only primarly platform I am trying to bring in my outslide clients in, however I have do have outside clients, it is challenging to make them switch when I am getting paid driectly through them? 

Any suggestion to beating this? 

I do try when a client connects me from say Linkedin I send them my UpWork Profile link where they can see the "hire me" button.
