$2M Earned on Upwork. I would love to HELP!

Hey Everyone,

I posted this in the newbie group. I can answer newbie questions there,

I can help answer more advanced questions here, I would love to help my fellow freelancers : )

I have been on the forums for a couple years but never really participated much,

I figured, what better way than to help others, ask away, some stats below (you can also click to see my profile)

๐Ÿ‘‰ Attained 200+ 5-star reviews.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Worked 40,000+ hours on freelance platforms
๐Ÿ‘‰ Earned a 100% Feedback Rating
๐Ÿ‘‰ Worked with 1,000+ Clients

Thank You - Sam

Hey Lisa, I don't boost often unless I really feel that the project has a big budget, other than that, I avoid it.

Thanks, but I was referring to your profile.  You wrote above that you boost your profile with 10 connects per day.  Are you still doing that?

Yes.

Thanks!  I'm asking because 10 connects per day seems on the low side to me.  I was experimenting with boosting my profile, and found that I'd need 20-25 connects to increase invites.

I agree, I have the 10 as a placeholder, I get very few invites honestly. I do agree, that depending on the niche / competition, you would need to go up significantly higher. I like to take the route of just going out and submitting a ton of proposals and then picking and choosing the ones that I get on an Upwork Zoom call with. I do have to do some more experimenting with the platform to see how I can get invited to jobs a lot more but, currently, it is a lot less than I would like.

Yeah, that's smart. I may just set a low number as a placeholder just to show the algorhythm I'm alive or something.

I lived off invites for years, but they dropped significantly once boosting started and Upwork stopped rotating my profile organically.

Same here, I use to get 20 invites a week, its now 2-3 : (

Does that mean you technically set a budget of 2000 connects per day to possibly be used? Essentially $300 per day.

We all started from ZERO, yes, it is a LOT harder to start now than it was a few years ago but its possible. You have to work hard, expand your skill set, get a few small jobs under your belt, get some good reviews and Yes, I know everyone hates to hear this but its a pay to plat game, you do have to submit a lot of proposals now to get attention. I am not a fan of boosting.

Like any other platform, you have to be seen, if your not seen, you have to way to win.

1. Make sure your profile is complete.

2. Take on a couple / few small jobs, even if you are not profitable (to learn the platform, to do a good job, get some reviews)

3. Make sure you have a good "template" for proposal submissions.

4. From there, you want to submit proposals

5. You can boost or you can basically just submit, I am not a big fan of the boost, mainly because....

6. Hope they open the proposal, view it, go to your profile and send you a message.

Note = Template. Yes, I have roughly 20 proposal templates, I adjust them as needed for each job, its almost impossible to start from scratch for each one, you will spend all day submitting proposals. I would recommend you have templates you build out and just adjust certain things as you submit for a specific job.

Note = For the Boost, The idea of a boost is awesome but the problem here is that people bid way to high, its a auction style system so for the "juicy" jobs, freelancers may go crazy, I have seen people boost up to 500+ connects, I have seen many others who took screen shots of freelancers submitting a lot higher. I assume these are agencies who do this.

Thanks for the tips! Completing my profile, taking small gigs for reviews, and having proposal templates are game-changers. Also, totally get what you mean about the boost - it's a bit of a bidding frenzy sometimes. I'll keep these in mind and hustle smart!

Happy to help, getting smaller clients / jobs at the start will also help you get accusumed to the upwork platform. I also recommend anyone who is new to take the courses / watch the webinars and so on.

Hello there,
I am new on upwork. Please help me if you can.
I have an experience of simple data Entry like invoicing, book keeping,
simple copy Paste from pdf to word/ Excel.
I know basic Photoshop editing and rendering of architectural drawings.
Please help
Thank you

Hey Neha, I think you need to upskill, a lot of these things you now mentioned can be done using AI. Focus on learning different tools and products and get away from manual work.

Thank you! I will definitely try.

Neha, I also had a quick look at your profile and its way to minimalistic here. You need to work on that.

I hope all is good. Feel free to let me know if you have any additional questions.

Now that is a nice simple example. Hope the new folkls read it.

I appreciate it and hope so.

Where did that other post go about the guy making 10M milestone in 20 years?

Turns out - after conversions he only made $357,988.16 (US) or $17,899 per year (US) +- taxes

Thats BELOW POVERTY level here!!!!

Also, avoid ANYONE who is negative, I started at ZERO, we all started at ZERO. Keep learning, keep improving, keep going. Unfortunetly, if the world we live in today, you have a lot of people who will try to discourage you, DO NOT listen. I know its hard, i was there!

Samer,

You have top take the good with the bad commentary to fully inderstand the situation.

Think of it this way - If you only watch the news that supports your affilation, you only get a view that agrees with you.
If you tolerate and understand the other persons opinion - you can get much farther in your endeavors.

So I will dissagree with your premis of avoiding a negative person!

Thanks

I like positive environments, sure, not everyone will win on Upwork but I tend to see that its the ones who persist that win.

I may need to update my profile a bit to help with the algorithm which I am sure is constantly updated.

I also highly recommend that you do a search and see what other freelancers in your niche are doing. NEVER COPY but get ideas of what they are doing, what thier profile looks like and so on.

Why am I receiving so many invitations and I'm yet to receive even one offer of those jobs? I have had about 25 invitations this year but I couldn't even secure one job with it. What could be the problem? Am I missing something?  please I need help.

Hey Franklina, if you are getting invited, and not converting them than your proposal needs work.

Feel Free to as any additional questions you have here. I am always around to help.

This is giving me hope that I will make money on this platform. I've been struggling to get contract for years. But, thank God I got small one yesterday and I believed this is the beginning of success, the journey to 5m dollars contract.

Thanks for sharing this
