A job you submitted a proposal to was closed

Hello,

I got this notification

"A job you submitted a proposal to was closed"

But there is no link for me to check the job details.

How is this notification helpful ?

Regards

Deb

If you really want to know (although I am not sure why it matters) you can check your archived proposals page.

It isn't.

In archived proposals page, its not sorted by close date (infact the "close date" isnt shown there at all)... so no help there.

Knowing which jobs are closed, doesnt help much, except for tracking.

Maybe if they showed who got awarded the job, and for what price that would have helped.

In the email notificaton for the job closing or expiration, select the hyperlink for "proposal" in the sentence, "Your proposal has been archived." This will display your proposal for the job. In the proposal's "Job details" section, select "View job posting". The posting's "Activity on this job" section lists the hired number of freelancers if applicable. If so, the "Client's recent history" section typically displays each hired freelancer's profile name and rate for the job.

I just want to check.  When I got the above email with that in the subject line I questioned the HR representative and  I was told that it was removed because they "close the post down because we have gotten the number of frelancw for this position".  Is that right?

See the attachements.  I tried the community help, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Hi Christina,

Thanks for flagging this job to us. I've checked and it looks like the job you're referring to has been taken down because it was in violation of Upwork TOS and action has been taken on the client account.

Please, check this help article for more information on how to use the flag option found on each job post or message to report any suspicious or inappropriate content. Also, check out this post for more tips on how to avoid questionable jobs.

Thank you!

Exactly. But there doesn't seem to be a way to tell. I don't get email notifications (I get too much email already), just messages within Upwork, where there is nothing to click on.

Oh, well. The first time I saw it I thought it would be helpful. Now I know better.

There's an option to stop receiving these useless messages. I've stopped them, along with suggested jobs emails and emails from so-called "talent specialists". It all helps to increase the signal-to-noise ratio.

Not sure anybody deserves such a snappy response from a "community guru" to what seems to be a valid question. Since we are now paying for connects, it's defintely interesting to some of us (including myself) where this money for connects went. Won't you agree Petra?

There's just absolutely no transparency.

Just go to your Archived Proposals Page, they are all there and you can look at them to your heart's content.

"Snappy?" What do you mean? I answered the question. You have a problem with that... why exactly?

And no, I am frankly not interested what happens after I have applied. If a client contacts me, I'll look up the job. If the client never does, I didn't get it and looking it up would be a waste of time and time is money.

Perhaps you should have stretched your words out so it would appear that you were answering s-l-o-w-l-y. 🙄

Once you apply to a job the connects you used to do so are gone. They don't get back except if the client closes the job without hiring anyone, which is something seldom happens, or if Upwork close the job because of ToS violation.

The "A job you submitted a proposal to was closed" notification is not useful at all, it would only if you received your connects back but as I said that's very unusual.

Hi;

So does that mean Upwork will refund connects if the client closes the job or is closed due to TOS issues?

Right on Debmallya B.

The subsequent responses do not not address your issue.

I just submitted a proposal for a job that was "open" and there was no notification when I went to submit my proposal that the job was already closed.

So I wasted my valuable time writing up a proposal, then when I went to submit it I was told that my proposal could not be saved because it was closed. What's up with that? It is exactly backwards and stupid. We all should be notified that the job was closed before we waste time writing up a proposal.

The second that I click on "Submit a proposal" we should be notified that the job is closed. Duh!

So if I apply for a job and it was closed, my money is gone?

Hi Abdulrahmeen,

If the project has been cancelled or a job has been removed from Upwork without a hire, Connects will be returned in the following cases:

  • If a project is canceled by the client without making a hire, the Connects used on that proposal will be returned to the freelancer or agency. This does not apply to expired job posts.
  • If a job post has been removed by Upwork for a Terms of Service violation, the Connects used on that proposal will be returned to the freelancer or agency.

In these cases, Connects are credited back to your account for reuse -- not for a refund of their cash value. You might want to read this help article for more information.

How do I turn off these "job closed" notifications? They are pointless.

Hi Katie,

You can manage your notifications in Settings > Notification Settings. I believe the one you'd be interested in disabling is "A job I applied to has been canceled or closed" under Freelancer and Agency Proposals.
