Access Denied - I'm in the U.S. but still can't apply?

I get this message no matter which job I apply for.  My profile has my address, which is in the U.S.  What do I need to do?  Every job I've looked at is for U.S. only, which is what I want.

Access denied

Unfortunately, you cannot submit a proposal for this job post. The client specified location that is outside your current location.

When looking for jobs, I keep receiving a message saying I am not located in the preferred area/location for the client. However, I live in the U.S. and have my settings set to such.

Any ideas on what the issue might be or how I can access these listings?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi - I'm in the same boat.  I've been trying to send a couple of proposals today, and I keep getting denied.  I'm in the preferred location.  Help me too!

Heh, me too.  I just made a post about this exact same issue.

Same, Just started having a issue. NY here.

Same here in Alabama.

Hi,

I need help!  I'm being denied access to submitting proposals.  The message states I am not in the preferred location, but I am in the US.  I know someone else is having the same problem..

I'm having the same problem. I'm also getting an error stating "Job Posting profile cannot be found". UpWork having some DB corruption issues? Not seeing anything on the status page...

Now it's intermittant.  I was able to submit a proposal, but it's still "glitchy."  (Is that a word??)

Is/was this related to the "no matching searches" issue? I am still having this issue. It's pretty frustrating at this point. Any update? 🙂

Hi Melanie,

Are you referring to the issue in this thread? The issue there has already been resolved, so I'd like to know if you are still experiencing the same issue or if you are referring to something else so we can help.

I'm sorry, Nina. I thought they were connected. They happened at exactly the same time and were in regards to the feed.

I'll go check that thread.

Thank you, it's working now.

Still having this issue.

Hi Chandi,

Before I proceed, could you please check if basic troubleshooting steps such as clearing your cache and cookies, or using a different browser will resolve the issue?

If this doesn't work, please send me a link to the job post you were applying for through a private message so that I can look into this further.

I am getting this too and I am in the U.S.  Sometimes I am in Germany so is it picking up something in my cookies or the server I am on that puts me in the wrong place?

Hi Anna,

I just checked your account and can confirm that you can apply on US only jobs. Please keep in mind that only freelancers located in US can apply to this type of jobs. If you relocate outside of US you won't be able to send proposals this type of jobs. If you have any additional questions let me know, thank you.

Hi C M,

I checked your account and can confirm that you can apply to U.S. job posts without an issue. Are you seeing something else on your end?

You do not meet all the client's preferred qualifications

You may still submit a proposal, but the client will see that the proposal does not meet the following criteria:

  • Location: United States, UTC-07:00

Hi C M,

I checked your account and it doesn't look like your location doesn't' match the client's location requirement. This is the reason why you are seeing this notification in your account. It is very likely that they need a freelancer within their location which is why they set this qualification. While you do not meet the client's preferred qualifications, you should still be able to submit a proposal for the job, and the client will still receive the proposal on their end. However, the client will see that you do not meet their qualifications.

Yes, that is exactly what I am seeing!

Unfortunately, you cannot submit a proposal for this job post. The client specified location that is outside your current location.

Meanwhile, time is ticking by and I cannot apply to jobs that are a great fit!

I am having the same problem.

"Unfortunately, you cannot submit a proposal for this job post. The client specified location that is outside your current location."

Hi Jeffrey,

Here's what worked for me:

(a) I saved my proposal in a separate file so I wouldn't lose it during the process of applying for a job;

(b)  Tried several times, about 15-20 apart, until it worked!

Best wishes,

Conna

I am having the same problem, please help!

Hi Claire,

Can you please send me a private message of the job post that you applied to so we can check this further? Thanks.

Here is the job that said I was not in the U.S. and that they would tell the client but I could still write a proposal.

Thanks,
Claire

Claire,

I see you were able to submit a proposal for that job. And yes, the client had certain location preferences set up for the job and they'll see whether you meet those preferences or not on your proposal. Still, they will be able to access your proposal.
