Does this mean you pay cash so that your proposal appears higher in a list that the client sees?
I can see how this would generate revenue for Upwork, but how would this help clients and contractors?
As a client, if I saw that a contractor has a sponsored proposal I would simply delete his proposal.

No, we can not, and No, we can't sponsor proposals, and thank heaven for that.
The day I have to pay to get a client to see my proposal first will be the day I give up freelancing.

You're paying for the client to see your proposal now, may as well be first.......

The job rate success of sponsored proposals on eLance was negligible. There were numerous threads on this subject and the general consensus was it was not only a waste of time but resulted in an even greater number of poorly thought proposals and bot bids.
To not allow sponsored bids was one of the wisest decisions Upwork made.

It always worked well for me and standing out from all the junk proposals.
