Am I working offline?

I'm writing this message while your application tells me that I'm now offline. Are you kidding me? I was working for the whole night and now I see that only 3 hours of my work tracked. When it was troubles with your web site, it was something we could wait for you to fix. But what's this? Screen Shot 2015-10-26 at 06.56.15.png

Are you able to switch it back to online? If you are set to offline because you are having difficulty with the Upwork Team App, please contact Customer Support for assistance. You can also use the App's Help menu to submit a support ticket that automatically includes the log files needed to help diagnose technical issues.

 1) How would he do that?

2) It would appear that this was experienced by many many people, including myself and people I work with on and off all weekend.

In general it either means an internet or network issue on the side of the freelancer, or a communication issue between the tracker and the server. The fact that it has been so widespread would indicate it may well have been the latter. The two are also not mutually exclusive ๐Ÿ˜‰

However, as long as the cache is not full, the time is safely stored and uploaded automatically as soon as communication is established again.

This mode is to protect our work and to make sure that even when the tracker can't communicate with the server for any reason, we can still carry on working and tracking time. It is rarely anything to worry about, provided the cache is not full.

PS

Great.

NOTHING I have tracked so far today has been uploaded. It's been in cache mode from theminute I logged in.

I have to do at least another 8 hours of work today and my cache will be full.

Not happy ๐Ÿ˜ž

And now I am working for free

Hi Petra and Ivan,

We are currently having issues with the Team App uploading the logged hours. The team is working to fix it permanently as soon as possible and I am working on finding a temporary solution for you to save your tracked hours. I will be back with an update.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

The trick is to EXIT the tracker - totally log out of it,then restart it!

That will, in most cases, trigger the cache to upload.

Beware that some people seem to suggest un-installing and re-installing the tracker.

DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS THE ABOVE HAS FAILED.

YOU WILL LOSE ALL TIME IN THE CACHE IF YOU DO.

After exiting and restarting the tracker it will STILL appear to be in cache mode.

Go for a walk, give it time, DO NOT TOUCH IT as it will probably be uploading your cache and you will probably see the time slowly appearing in your work diary.

The exclamation mark saying that it is in cache mode will NOT vanishuntil all time in cache is uploaded.

It worked for me and those I have shared it with.

Again, if someone tells you to uninstall the tracker and re-install it, and you have time in the cache, DON'T unless the above really has failed.

Good luck!

Hi Petra,

I just wanted to check if all of your time that was tracked offline was successfully uploaded? Please, let me know if you are still experiencing the issue.

Thank you!

Yes,  Thanks Valeria, all the time that was in the cache uploaded eventually after a kind soul suggested I totally exit (log out of) and restart the tracker.

Luckily I ignored the advice to re-install the tracker.

I "only" lost the hours I worked without the tracker after the cache was full.  I know I "could" ask for manual time but frankly I do not wish to do so.

Hi Petra (and Valeria),

I just wanted to say that I'm facing the same 'supposed to be offline' caching too, and is true that shutting the Team App completely down (without reinstalling it!) does work, even though is not the perfect solution...

Anyway, I experienced very low activity recorded in the 10 minutes sections when I had to shut the Team App down, due to imperfect caching... but at least the majority of the work is safe!

Thank you Petra! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a good time!

Daniele

Daniele, unless your cache is full do NOT turn your tracker on and off, as you will lost any and all time-segments that had no screenshot prior to being turned off.

Unless the tracker tells you that the cache is full LEAVE IT ON!

Hi Petra,

...you're right! ...I've learned it 'the hard way'! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, it is not a practical thing to do if we are limited with the time to dedicate to a project... but now I've learned to calculate it in advance, so that if the team app is 'blind' in the offline mode I will know my timings anyway!

By the way, is there a way to have the Team App start to count my time from the beginning I start to work? For instance, if I begin to work at 8:02 but the screenshot is only at 8:08, than this starting segment will have a very low activity... any idea?

Thank you!

Bye!

Daniele
