Amount paid higher than amount agreed

Would appreciate any insight into this...

I recently finished a contract for which I was paid a higher amount than the initial agreement - a second milestone was added, for which I was paid a higher amount. Now that the contract is finished, I'm noticing that I only the initially agreed amount has been added to my balance, and there's an option on the contract page to "give a refund".

How do I actually receive the full amount I was paid?

I'm pretty sure there's always an option to give a refund on that page.

What's happening on your "Reports" page? Is some of that money still under review or hovering elsewhere?

Did you actually receive a refund request, or just notice the button?

Hi There,

Raise a support ticket and hopefully someone from the Upwork team can help you in the payment related dispute. Also go to the reports and see the insight about the payments and breakups.

Have you asked the client? They may have made a mistake, Always discuss with the client!

Argh, yeah, never thought to click on the Reports tab... the remaining money's still pending review, that's all. Sorry, still learning the ropes at Upwork.

Anyway, that takes some weight off my mind - thank you!!

Don't apologize. We're here to help.

My client paid 60 instead of 40 but we agreed we carry the payment forward for the next job which i did at half the price. I have only received the 40 from the first job. How do i claim the 20?

Hi Andrew,

I checked your account, and it looks like your client has created another milestone to fund the remaining $20. It seems like the funds are currently pending and you can check them herePending payments become available for you to withdraw after the standard five-day security period. Here's the help article for more information about how you get paid for fixed-price contracts.

I'm aware of the pending 20. But initially, she paid 60 instead of 40 for the first contract, but i have only received 40 which was her budget. So technically I'm supposed to receive 60 for the first project.

Hi Andrew,

It seems like the client has already closed the contract. Your client has the option to send you a bonus payment instead for the remaining funds.

You need to make sure they fund the entire amount befiore you start working.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Hello team. The client paid more than agreed because he asked that I increased the word count for some of the articles I was working on. After approving my request for payment, I realized not the total amount was released. Some are pending. How can I claim this?

Released by the client or released by Upwork? What do you mean by pending? If the client has paid, and the payment shows as pending in your overview--just wait. Eventually it will become available.

Thanks Tonya for your response. Kindly note that the client has approved the milestone but only the amount requested was becomes available; the remaining balance the client paid for the extra job remains at pending

That happens because the client had to make a new credit card transaction to pay the extra. It usually ends up taking 1-2 days longer to clear. You don't have to do anything.
