Any advice on getting that first job on Upwork please?

Hi everyone!  

I'm new to Upwork over the past few weeks. I've submitted 14 proposals so far and still nothing. Does anyone have any advice please?  I've done all of the things Upwork has suggested, and even been awarded Rising Talent (thanks Upwork!) status which I'm super stoked about considering I haven't yet won a job!  I'm starting to lose hope of ever being chosen. I have found several projects just don't pay the going rate so I've often bid over their Fixed Price, which may have something to do with it?
