Being chared the 10% odesk fee on this weeks (pending) and Last week (review)

Hi,

 

Just checked my reports and just like last week the amount of 10% has been taken out of my pending payments for the amount that is in review

 

so now my pending payment (the one to be released this wednesday) is being charged the 10% fee plus the 10% fee for last weeks work. (the one in review)

 

This is the same problem that happend last week ...Is this going to happen every week now?

 

Is this going to be fixed??

Same! I was also hit with two service charges from one employer, which has taken away from my weekly earnings. It was fine the way it was BEFORE they went and did this. I am fuming!

What's worse is that I'm being charged more than 10% to my pending payment! And oDesk support is saying that this is normal! How does $952 get reduced to $798??? That doesn't sound like 10% to me. I hope that there's something that I'm misundertsanding- and not that money is being stolen out of my account

I did my math on it and they are taking 10% per client, so if you have more then one client you might want to do the math on 10% for each and see if that is where the problem is.


Edited to add checking mine again it looks like you are right they have taken out pending and previous in advance so my check is showing pending and In Review charges already taken so it makes my money less in the pending ugh!

Suzanne that's what I thought too. But the amounts/calculations still don't add up.

 

I really am going to have to raise my rates to cover the "disappearances" in my earnings. And if any client asks why my rate is high, I'll just direct them to these threads!

They can't just still from us ya'll.  I had a fuming dispute earlier when I noticed they'd taken almost $200 off my weeks earnings, charging for service fees double.  Who do they think they are?  That's right Odesk, who the hell do you think you are?  

 

Go to support and demand your earnings, I did.  They are supposed to be fixing this problem and giving the earnings they are supposed to by payday, at least that is what I was told.  Someone's head is on a platter if they don't fix this.  Can we say FRAUD???

Did you try calculating last weeks and this weeks? Did it come out to that amount because mine did and it shows in pending fees for last week and this week pending not one set in review.

Yes, and the agent I talked to earlier, that I actually just exploded on in rage found the errors as well.  I have a ticket open and they are supposed to reply.  He claimed there is a team working on the issue and not to worry, funds we are supposed to get will be received.  This just pisses me the hell off because I've been here 3 years and everything was fine until they pulled this garbage.  

 

This is why I say, they are trying to get over on freelancers.  

I had the same problem. The 10% is way too much in fact they should not charge us with a service fee. I wonder what will be the client's reaction when we, the contractor increases our rates..........that would be another problem if the clients will go to another online service website and wont hire anymore contractors from oDesk! 

I had a similar problem. The amount of money for the fees was more than 10%. But then I discovered that for some reason, the service fee wasn't connected to a couple of jobs. This means that the money for a job was available but they hadn't taken the fee (so I got the full amount). The fee for the job was still in pending which meant the service fees added up to more than 10%.

 

I checked a couple of days ago and suddenly everything looked normal.

I contacted support and actually got a gal who explained to me how it is working. She went over my Transaction history with me.

 

The service fees are showing pending but amounts and when they are deducted should be showing the correct dates. The next fee will not come out till March 4th. If you look at your transaction history you will see the dates it is coming out of. So your Pending numbers may be off (mine sure were) after I spoke to her I was reassured that the Pending amount was not the amount with the fees, it would be coming out of the next. 

 

So we still do not have a valid way of looking at things and they have made it more a mess.

 

I hope I explained it right here, as it made sense when she walked me through it.

 

 

Let's just hope that this is as bad as it will get.

 

It's sort of strange though that it's taking their devs so long to fix the problem. It looks like all they need to do is change the status of the service fee of the transaction that's 'in review' to 'in review' also, and not 'pending' so it's not deducted from any earnings that are 'pending'.

I was told by support that this is by design and not a bug and that I shouldn't count on it being changed. Hopefully the support rep was wrong.

It's really confusing and not fair in my opinion. I tried to explain more about it>>

 

My pending balance was $562(Feb 9 - 15) and available balance way -$25. Now I see my pending balance is $387 and still available balance is -$25. So if odesk took 10% charge then why pending balance became $387 and why my avialable balance -$25 ?? charge should be $56.2 So pending balance should be $505.8 or it should be $505.8-$25 = $480.8 and avialable balance should 0 not minus(-).

 

But what happened Odesk also charged for week Feb 16 - 22 which is still pending. So what problem I got. I wanted to withdraw my current pending balance when it will be avialable on 25th Feb but I won't get as expected due to the charge of this Feb 16 - 22 week.

 

So ODesk is taking advance charge though balance is in review. I think, this is not correct. ODesk should change this policy.

The glitch is in the way the pending amount is displayed in the reports page. I too have the same problem but the correct amount was displayed in the 'Available' column on wednesday and I was able to withdraw it. And I'm sure come wednesday, the right amount will appear in the available column this week also!

 

So if you are bothered that your money is being siphoned off, do not worry ๐Ÿ™‚

 

But I do hope oDesk corrects this at the earliest - more than a week to resolve a problem of this magnitude troubles me. I'm even more bothered that oDesk has not even acknowledged that this IS a bug!!!

I hope and pray hehe that the right amount will be displayed on Wednesday!

Same here. My pending was deducted by 10% twice. It is indeed not fair and very confusing!

I've been checking out oDesk's wall on FB, and a lot of people are complaining about the same thing. However, the social media managers are responding saying that there IS bug in the way earnings are displayed (the double/20% charge), and the technical team is working on it.

 

If so, why weren't we informed? I've been told by Live Chat support that the earnings display is normal and Valeria stated (in another thread), that everything is working as it should be. But clearly not!

 

For 3 consecutive days (23rd-25th) money has been disappearing from my Pending section (also reflected under "other payments and adjustments"), which makes no sense, as we are supposed to be charged on a weekly basis. The next deduction should be on the 4th of March, but instead money was taken away from my earnings on Monday, Tuesday, and I assume tomorrow as well.

 

Am I missing something here??

I apologize for any confusion and frustration. There is an issue in the way fees are displayed for pending earnings and currently Service fee for the two weeks' earnings show in the Pending tab. oDesk Team is working to resolve it. Service fees are not assessed until the related earnings become available.

My pending earnings are now being displayed correctly as they should be and match the spreadsheet I have to keep track of my earnings. . Apperantly it's been fixed. Thank you.

Thanks for the update. Mine are also showing correctly. It looks like if things are done right we should have our pending after fees showing correctly from now on once it is in the pending.
