Bidding War

Freelancers may use more connects when bidding on one job to increase their chances of getting noticed by the client. And what If a highly skilled freelancer does not have many connects to spend on job proposals on Upwork? then what is he gonna do?

Every time a write a cover letter before submitting it, I see people using 20-plus connects on the job and I feel worthless.

Please, someone, give me an explanation.

I don't actually like this bidding war thing Upwork has just been updated.

Noshan,

Only apply for Jobs that you are an exact match based upon the client's listed Skills and your listed Skills. The closes matches get tagged as "Best Match" to the client and stand out better than the top 3 positions in my opinion. No need to have a bidding war. Have a great day!

I don't like it either. If you don't have the connects you just have to take your chance. It's only for the top 3 positions. If the  client is serious they will read more than 3 proposals. I tried it a few times and got a refund for most because it wasn't high enough. Now I never even think about boosting. I avoid applying for jobs that already have a lot of proposals.

It's absolute nonsense to say that there is "no need to have a bidding war" as long as you apply for jobs for which you are "perfectly" matched! Anyone who thinks that is possible with Upwork's current bidding regime is seriously delusional. It is ABSOLUTELY about creating bidding wars, because that means more connects being bought and Upwork making more profits. It's disgusting and I for one am sick of it.
